Therein lies the problem, especially as Foakes had a thoroughly mediocre county season with the bat. Suddenly we don't have one keeper that we could confidently bat at 7, and nobody saw that coming a year or two ago. Maybe Foakes will step up a gear in Sri Lanka.

Well I was against Bairstow being dropped originally but having dropped him he hasn't done anything to warrant a recall and giving Buttler the gloves has seen his scores get worse as well. Foakes returns to side in Sri Lanka and hopefully gets a chance next summer and cements his place.

Tbh if I'd been offered 320-ish before the first ball was bowled I'd have taken it, it's just always annoying when you get a decent total but know it could have been more if not for some rubbish dismissals. But we've had our moments of luck on the way too, so I'm not really sure what to make of this innings

Yeah it is a difficult one, guess we will know after a session or two of Saffers batting.

Suppose from 157-4 we'd have taken 325+ given how we fold so easily of late but from 100-0 and 258-4 it is a bit annoying.
