quotas are an issue when you're losing devon conways to other nations. can't say how he'll go but the domestic scene being eroded by politics will always hurt.

it's not an excuse for established international batsmen like faf, elgar and co playing like spuds however. the decision to bat a 24 year old 4 test veteran at #3 is also more of a selectors are idiots decision than anything to do with domestic cricket. likewise other countries would love a quota of rabadas and philanders.

as to the quota semi final thing, south africa should look at this spud first before blaming selections on losing a tight game. this hackfraud literally prepares their brains for big games. no wonder they struggle in knock out fixtures with this bloke helping them.

****ing hate the SA team selected... I do not think the selection could have been worse to not move SA cricket in the right direction. 6 of the members of the SA side should not be in the team, and that does not even include the older guys Faf and Philander that won't be in the team for much longer.

Would you mind elaborating? I don’t follow SA cricket unless England are involved.

Curran. Regardless of whether he takes the new ball, he's the 5th seamer in that team.
True but have a look at how his stats compare to Jimmy and Broad after 16 tests. Comfortably has the best average.

Was averaging 29 till Maharaj went berserk.

What makes this team selection even worse, is that if we lose, the new administration is going to be put under huge political pressure, on many fronts. If they win this match then these players are gonna hang around for another 2 years and SA will be in exactly the same position as we are now without any forward improvement.

Usually, the team that drops the spinner deserves to lose.

Both sides have done it here, but SA are particularly guilty since their spinner is a proven Test performer. Keshav Maharaj was his side's best bowling in the first innings at Perth, and you've dropped him for an extra bog standard domestic fast-medium.

Test cricket is about having players for all sorts of different conditions. It’s about anticipating how conditions will change as the match wears on.

Half the point of Test cricket is that you can have a guy standing around for three and a half days who then comes in and wins you the match. Not picking a spinner says spin bowling has no major part to play in the game. For that, you should be spun out and your fast bowlers should be worn into the ground.

Test cricket is broad, varied and rich and anything that goes against that is sacrilege.

Yeah look philosophically I entirely agree with you but less chances for Maharaj to **** up his stats before CPL starts >>>>> actual good cricket

Abbott's been the biggest loss by far. Quality bowler in Tests and ODIs. Even then his was not a case of quotas (unless we believe the WC semi theory) but rather not being able to crack the team in the presence of Philander, Steyn, Morkel and Rabada.
Why wouldn't you

I'm still not used to this opening partnership of over 50... that is something that only happened to other teams surely!
