Grand Slam Draft Tournament

I am a bit curious to see the reasoning behind picking my team this round or going against my XI?

I personally think if you just skim through our lists BB wins. I think if you start picturing how a Test plays out, particularly a Test outside of England, it is closer.

Im not at all trying to suggest the BB voters didnt think hard enough or anything, just curious about reasoning and I am keen for a little debate.

Teuton

International Captain
Both teams have excellent batting. Iwould have liked to have seen an extra bowler in both teams, but I get that the quality was probably not there in this instance. Given this, for mine the team with the best chance of taking 20 wickets was nufan due to Clarrie Grimmet.

Instead of Freddie Brown, I was looking at the likes of Phil de Freitas or Gladstone Small.

Maybe Phil was a bit better than just a 90s talent who underperformed as I had him locked in as.

Chris Lewis another option. Underperformed in tests, but arguably the best of the plastic Bothams England was mildly obsessed with in the late 80s/early 90s.

Or, if you didn't mind significantly weakening the batting, there's always big bad Dev Malcolm.

Don't know half the players in the marc/morg battle and I don't think I can really judge it on averages alone.

You could argue that someone like Malcolm is devastating on his day but I just figure if I want a bowler averaging over 35, Ill just let my 6th and 7th bowling options (Dexter and Labuschagne) have a go.

Guess when it comes to big Dev it depends on whether the opposition are foolish enough to bounce him :-)

I must admit I thought I'd strangled you out of a quality spinner when I grabbed Kumble Teuton. Completey forgot Saqlain managed a test ton

These sort of tactics being played out is actually the aspect I'm enjoying most about this. I actually tried to drain the batting pool really quickly against Milenko after he snavelled all of the best bowlers in out R1 battle. Fascinating stuff.

By the way, everyone's casted their votes yeah?

Should get a mod to say voting open or something on the title to get more voting IMO

The batting didn't drop out as quickly as the bowlers though. Tbf when you took BMac I thought I was doomed. :)

I think there's just Marcuss left to vote of those still taking part (as it happens, he's also the only person with a comfortable lead in this round).

Yeah, haven't started the next round yet cause the MM/Teuton battle is currently tied at 4 votes each. Would be great to get another voter, or someone who didn't vote on that battle to throw down a vote, as we need a tie-breaker vote. NUFAN/Brumby is also close, with the score being 4-5.

Teuton v mr_mister

This is very hard to split, I think Teuton has a better lower order with some genuinely threatening tailend batting as oppose to people who flunked at ton (looking at you, Kumble/Gillespie). The middle orders are a dead heat. On the other hand I think Jackson and Goddard is a genius opening pair and MM has the more reliable bowling attack.

NUFAN v BoyBrumby

Again, hard to split. Both sides have a strong batting lineup, but I preferred NUFAN’s inclusion of a world class legspinner to Brumby’s all pace barrage. Also felt that Cowdrey opening and Stokes at 8 is a bit of awkward shoehorning compared to NUFAN’s more natural looking lineup, and that Pietersen-Jardine-Grieg-Prior-Stokes is a dressing room disaster waiting to happen.

Milenko vs AndrewB

Found this one a lot easier, there are just too many players I’ve never heard of in Milenko’s team. I am however delighted to discover Arthur Dolphin.

Marcuss v morgie

The like of King, van der Bijl and Rice are the key here and I also rate Marcuss’ top three. Mike Hendrick is a canny selection from morgie but he has the weaker attack overall i think.

Still fairly close at the moment, & do believe Howe's vote makes NUFAN/Brumby tied for points.

SCC & Marcuss, care to help us out on the voting front?

Just on this, Reggie Schwarz was pretty much exactly that, tbf.

Arguably the greatest leggie England has ever produced, in fact. Albeit one who played test cricket for RSA.

NUFAN - as much as it pains me to vote against Headley
AndrewB

As to be expected in a two person draft; all close to coin flips.
