Got back from holidays yesterday and switched on to watch Black Caps but soon enough was watching Super Smash. Was thinking Leo Carter should get out if he can't hit around that was when he was on 10 off 11 or something. Then watched the rest of the game. That was some hitting, it seemed like someone turned the beast mode switch on and he just smashed it consistently. ND has been disappointing this year, they have in the ranks many past and current black caps but just can't win.

Firebirds on the other hand have been going really well, great to hear. Haven't watched much of it at all... Looks like the ever reliable Conway, Bennett, Newton have been outstanding. Ravindra has chipped in at times with the bat and ball, Pollard has made a come back and Jimmy Neesham has been very consistent this season with bat and ball. Good mix of experience and youth working for Firebirds. Ben Sears still out on account of injury I hear. Would be nice to have Sears playing.

William Young back playing for CD A. Didn't score much yesterday but played two T20s vs Wellington A. Good on him for skipping the Aussie series. By chance he played and didn't go well they would have binned him again for a long time. He'll be named in the side vs India and at home. Good for him to start at home and the progress his career.

this isn't really a cd a team haha it's almost a full strength shield side. who is hartshorn?

also i love this wiggins character for his name and want to see him get some shield games.

Hartshorn has been in news in local Wellington cricket for the last couple of months. He's the former Wellington U19 rep and picked up 8 fer vs CD A in Nov when these two teams last played a 3 dayer.

Wiggins is an Easts lad another former U19 Wellington rep. Both these lads represented U19s for Wellington the same year as Rachin Ravindra and Ben Sears. Wiggins is seen as future replacement for Jeetan Patel.

I see there is a Wiggins in CD A as well. There is Jed Wigging in Wellington but he's not playing today.

Why do Auckland, as the biggest province in the country, constantly seem to have specialist seamers operating at about 122 clicks? Is there really no-one in club cricket even operating at a respectable fast-medium?

mcewan is just h4x. one of the few surviving true medium pacers from the great pitch purge.

you've got lockie.

Yes there's Lockie, but it is true that the fast bowler jocks have been quite sociable and low in autistic traits in the cricket culture in Auckland for a while now. If one wants to be an attractive option for media work, or stay close-knit with those who work in the media, this could act as something of a guard rail to keep most of them quite anodyne and moderate in temperament, well removed from the truly nasty short ball spells of a low IQ autist like Kuggs or a high IQ autist like Sears. I can sort of see where TH is coming from with it.

I'll request South Asian migrants to assist, but I think they feel they can only help with the production of really good young spinners at this stage.

Conway tonnes up for the Firebirds ... Wellington pretty close to sealing a home final, I look forward to finding out what event the Basin already has scheduled for that date.

A Karori Park appreciation concert hosted by Friends of Karori Park. Wonder where they'll have to schedule the cricket

Or a 2020 Super Smash Grand Final viewing party ... bring some friends, a few beers, and watch it on the Don Neely Scoreboard from the comfort of the playing turf!

Just making all of this thread's readers aware that South Africa vs. England has been hiding down on channel 50, the Sports News channel.

Whoever it was wanting that prestige factor in the pricing for international cricket coming from South Africa may've exited, or else that new British Sky NZ executive got all that money freed up from losing the New Zealand rights (and perhaps likes cricket more than the previous American management), and finally those two parties can reach deals, rather than just have no money coming from New Zealand, for about 25 straight summers.

Massive brain explosion by the Firebirds lads. Lost 5 wickets for nothing chasing small total. They had it under control till Fraser Colson was out to a good ball. From then on, it was just silly cricket. They just needed to tap around and get to the total but they played some uncharacteristic shots to get themselves out. Mighty impressed by the Firebirds bowling but too much reliance on Devon Conway to win games with the bat.

Yes Pollard or Colson will be cut for Blundell now, but I'd really prefer it was Bracewell who got chopped. Very disappointed with your tip for Bracewell to be booming it in this campaign. :p

Becoming a bit of an embarrassing bumpkin on the Firebirds roster, right at a time when we're hopeful of showing the rest of the country how attractive batting is done. Boxing Day Test centurions, ruthless stamina knocks from South Africans, Ravindra patchy overall but with the big 130 against Ferguson, yet at No. 4 it's a journeyman from Otago. Doesn't quite seem right. I guess he may not even be taken back with great keenness due to Kelly and Foxcroft's success. Maybe when Broom retires he could look into skulking off back home for me.

He's never greatly impressed in his time in Wellington, it has to be said. Not quite sure how he made captain, but I guess it was when most of dad's army were heading off into the sunset, and he was one of the few experienced batsmen remaining.

Very poor way to lose a game, even the final few balls, getting caught in the outfield in that situation - so dumb! Hopefully they can seal their home final on Sunday, though ... will be the first match of the season I'll manage to make it to!
