I think you're selling them a bit short. Richardson, Cairns, Nash, Vettori, Fleming would all make this side pretty easily imo.

4 of them yes. touch and go with nash, who is up against the more filled in career of southee. i haven't seen enough of dion nash to say who was better. there's a chance too we'd play both cdg and cairns to #engineroom.

I agree with you 100% on this one. Steve Waugh often pissed me off with how often he would let an opponent into a game that they had no right being in. Luckily for him his bowlers came through for him nearly every time.

Sure but you can't really claim that they "made the running" or "forced Australia's hand" in any way. They declared behind out of desperation because they were completely outclassed, out of the game and it was the only way they could possibly pull off a result.

Give Fleming some credit I guess but it's not like it was a risky thing to do. They'd likely have been bowled out in another 10-20 runs anyway

It does seem a bit odd to me how he’s been bagged, though it seems a Fox thing more than Seven, who I haven’t heard too much negative stuff from based on what I can recall.

I think he’s had a decent all round series tbh, albeit a bit arse about from what was expected - I’d have thought he would have batted well here but struggled with the ball - been the other way around. Wagner aside, been your best bowler by miles.

Nah 7 were bagging him a bit too.

I think it's down to how he's gotten out, especially given he's looked fairly solid with the bat. Has bowled pretty well though.

It's not just on this tour, it's been a consistent thing. Doull/Smith have taken jabs in the past that don't make a whole lot of sense when you look at his record. Even when he's failed with the bat in past series, he's generally found a way to contribute with the ball. It's like they see him get out in a dumb way so they dismiss everything else he's contributing to the team.

yea this

he's the dumbest batsman in world cricket but his...peace of mind...also allows him to be one of the most terrifying. he's ruined everything for the oppo several times in his career and he's played a couple of conservative knocks too when we've needed it which is always funny to watch because of the pain on his face.

the microscope on him every single test and not on certain others who may or may not also bowl 120kph outswingers and be dumb batsmen is interesting.
