The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

International Coach
Grace
Bradman
Sobers
Marshall
Gilchrist

These are not my top 5, though it's awful close.

Grace is obvious , no explanation needed.
Bradman gripped the game and never let it go until his final innings. He was the game and the heart of one of the three great teams in history.
Sobers was everywhere during his playing days, he and Benaud in one series helped rejuvenate and save the game. He was a force unlike anyone since Bradman and just played the game the right way.
The 3rd great phenomenon of the game, that changed and dominated the game was the West Indies quartet. Marshall was the greatest of the lot, never lost a series and almost never a match once he started to open the bowling and was the key to what was one of the 3 greatest teams in history.
Gilchrist makes the 5 just ahead of Sachin. He literally changed the expectation of his position and was an ATG batsman and keeper. He was often what broke the back of the opposition and also kept to Warne like a master. The wicket keeper batsman was a thing before him, he made it a must. He was possibly the key and definitely the catalyst of the 3rd great team in history.

Sorry I might be misremembering from one of my old cricket books, but wasn’t it more Worrell and Benaud that were the iconic captains?

If I'm recalling correctly he was brought to tears on that tour, because of how he perceived the bias of the umpires.
