Question on ban announcements

I think there exists some level of mutual respect between most members of the CW community who've stuck around for a decent amount of time. The problem stems from the existence of people who thrive on the confrontational and standoffish aspects of political discourse and have no interest in being part of the community per se. Of course, you can't force people to mix in or issue an inside joke authorization card to such members who engage in good natured discussion in multiple subfora. I'm sure something can be done to curtail that sort of **** flinging tendency though.

Would people appreciate a hard and fast "no politics or religion outside the politics subforum" rule? Would that even work? I know other forums have this kind of rule and it can work well in some circumstances.

One of those circumstances is that people have to actually follow the spirit, not just the letter, of the rule, and not smuggle in coded jokes and trolls that are not technically, literally about politics but are clearly about politics once context is taken into account.

I wont mind the hard and fast rule, but then again, I am not into political discussion here and I have very little idea what the political leanings of most of the regular posters here is anyways. So maybe it is much easier for me to agree to this than few others.

So I tried going back a few pages to see what the discussion was about and I am not sure if I understand it. Can someone explain the events in an easy way for me and the other new members to understand? This place seems worse than Planetcricket, where I am from in some ways when it comes to racism.

yeah it gives up a vibe to newcomers that the sort of ****-slinging that went on in the ATG thread (to take one example I recently endured reading) is purely nationalistic hate, whereas at least three quarters of it is performative heel-acting.

Probably not imo. Just another rule to police. If people go ott then you have info to act against them. I mean I see some sympathy for Shri here but the guy basically said he like to off some people. Then unironically called them nutjobs. Not his best effort.

Shri made some piss poor posts lets be honest. Can't ignore that just because we like the guy. CW always struggles with this. Long time posters always get away with far more than newbies do because if they do start stinking it up they're immediately called out on it and usually bullied away (probably rightly so). We're given a seriously generous benefit of doubt just because we've been here for a while.
