You do realize if NZC refused, CA can't do anything, right? They could have well decided to do a 3rd test V England at home and only played the Boxing and New Years' tests. Its all part of negotiations, which is what the board should be good at. If NZC were good enough, they would have worked out a way to not have this as a day night test which put them at a huge disadvantage given the other team just came off playing another day night test in the same country. Day night tests have not yet become that common and neither has the pink ball become that good that these things cease to be a factor. Maybe in the future we will reach a stage where day night tests are like day night ODIs but its not the case now.

They're don't have much leverage over CA in such negotiations though.

In any case, I doubt a warm up would have made a huge difference. Look at Pakistan for example.

I hope bowling 125kph half trackers and waiting for batsmen to get themselves out doesn't catch on. It's atrocious cricket. The medium-pace equivalent of a part-time offie bowling full tosses and waiting for catches on the boundary.

I don't think NZ will start relying on it given Southee and Boult are primarily swing bowlers. I do hope we don't see more of it from teams unless it's a Plan C or something.

Away side can't refuse the tests that are agreed under the WTC but day/night tests are always subject to consent of both boards AFAIK. And playing a d/n test in itself is not a disadvantage to NZ, it is a disadvantage though when the host team have already played their previous test as a d/n one and are anyways at home while the away side is coming in cold with everything stacked against them. A better board would have negotiated at least one less disadvantage for their side by making it a day test.

From Australia's perspective they don't care about runs because they already have plenty, but they want us batting as close to lights as possible.
