Warner dropped his bat following through he had so much control
Yeah, first one I've seen him drop.I can't remember the last time CDG dropped a catch.
Bairstow, World Cup finalI can't remember the last time CDG dropped a catch.
And will Raval (1) overtake Santner's run tally (2)?Points of minor interest for remainder of match: Will Santner overtake Raval's wicket tally of 1?
Doubt he'll manage it before the end of the series tbhPoints of minor interest for remainder of match: Will Santner overtake Raval's wicket tally of 1?
That’s the point though. They literally have a guy that’s got experience in Australia, and leave him out of an Australian series. We went through this during the tour of SL when Santner bowled flat rubbish and was completely outbowled by both Ajaz and Sommerville.
So is it worth trying out Astle for the next test then? From whatever I seen he bowls a fair number of hit-me deliveries mixed in with some real good ones (fairly standard for a leggie); so possibly a bit more upside to selecting him on the bowling front, but Kane doesn't really know what to do with him.Doubt he'll manage it before the end of the series tbh
Seriously, his place in the team is just a poor poor selection. We went through this during the tour of SL when Santner bowled flat rubbish and was completely outbowled by both Ajaz and Sommerville. The idea that spinners can't possibly contribute to a tour of Australia, and therefore you should just select a dollar store Vettori and hope he won't **** the bed too bad was ridiculous from the start. Team's that go to Australia and win have either had a) an ATG great fast bowler or 2 (which we don't have) or b) a spinner who can pull his weight (which we probably don't have - but that doesn't mean it wasn't worth trying to find one).
One way would be to ditch the spinner completely, play four frontline quicks (Henry and Boult joining the current two assuming Ferguson's out) and have CdG performing the holding role (with Raval and KW helping out. Not ideal I know.Without a change in the squad I don't see a way of improving on the current situation.
I think that’s a mistake tbh. Five quicks incl Colin is really overkill. I get the frustration but i don’t think it’s feasible tbhOne way would be to ditch the spinner completely, play four frontline quicks (Henry and Boult joining the current two assuming Ferguson's out) and have CdG performing the holding role (with Raval and KW helping out. Do agree with jcas above, am all for summoning Somerville as replacement but that just isn't the way of this NZ setup.
Agree and also, I didn't have faith that Santner could do either part of the role assigned to him on this tour anyway i.e. score runs against Australia's quicks or keep the runs down. The latter because Australian batsmen at home are extremely hard to contain unless you take wickets, which Santner doesn't. And nothing's happened to dissuade me from that - Santner's been the most expensive bowler this match aside from Ferguson.Doubt he'll manage it before the end of the series tbh
