I remember South Africa coming back in Perth after Steyn got injured.

We just need a mini collapse like the one that Southee brought about vs England in the 1st innings. Then bat bigly.

Don't really know what to make of that. 4/250 I think is a decent position but the tail could easily all go against Wagner. NZ likely being a bowler down helps too. Be interested to see if the pitch has more pace in it tomorrow. Marnus was brilliant and Wagner bowled with intelligence, variation and guts that other visiting bowlers *cough*England*cough* could take note of.

I just can't help be worried about Smith. He's looked so out of sorts in the Shield and against Pakistan, is batting painfully and no longer breaking the bowlers' rhythm like he used to. Hopefully it's just a temporary thing and he gets back to piling on the runs, rather than the start of a struggle.

How are honours even. They batted a whole day and are 4 down ffs.

They are gonna make whatever they want and we are gonna have to make big runs
Australia could be dismissed for under 300 still. But you are right, Australia are fractionally ahead, especially with Ferguson injured.

They won the toss with good batting conditions and only scored at 2.7. When Warner was in I thought they'd get well over 300 today.

Also headache at 6/7 aren't proven at this level then it is the bowlers. There's a good chance we keep them under 350.

He looks out of sorts doesn't he? Even the hundred he made in the shield was very slow. Still, I'd love all out of sorts batsmen to score 43(140).

53 - Neil Wagner
has taken 53 Test wickets from short balls since the start of 2016; 17 more than any other bowler in that time. Hostile.

Why did de Grandhomme get the new ball ahead of Wagner? Underrated with the new ball.

80.1

Wagner to Buttler, OUT, bowled 'im! The new ball works a treat! Full, yorker-length from round the wicket, Buttler doesn't offer a shot, and it crashes into the base of off stump! My oh my... if that doesn't sum up how England have fared in the past four days, what does? Think Glenn Maxwell's leave against Ryan Duffield in the 2014-15 BBL - it's that hard to fathom

can't wait for the media to dog pile lockie and his selection after demanding it all summer
You just know it's going to happen.

Has he been bowling much over the past couple of weeks? Wonder if he was not quite in tip-top condition. Debuting in 40 °C heat is about as brutal an initiation to test cricket as you can get. Even though it was a flat wicket I thought the Eng match would have been perfect.

I’ll call it now (I’m a good jinxer so why not) but no way they make under 350

Pretty respectable day from NZ, would have said honours about even if they nipped out one more wicket under lights. Two recognized batsmen out there and no Ferguson definitely gives Australia an upper hand going into tomorrow.

The the bowlers were all good-to-very-good with the exception of Santner. Hard, however, to see them doing the frontrunning; taking 20 wickets with a depleted attack is a tall order, and if the pitch quickens up as predicted Australia's bowlers will likely get a lot out of it. Still, was a similar sort of start in Mt. Maunganui so let's hope for the best.

We fought hard all day despite a number of things going against us. Shows the spirit and caliber of this side. We really needed an extra wicket tonight. As it is, we now need to make inroads early tomorrow otherwise it could be another long day with a bowler down and the prospect of being exposed under lights in the third session. Now that I think about it, Australia's first session at us under lights will probably decide the result of the test match.

Australia on top but we didn't crumble and showed some good resolve on a batting pitch. Yeah, there's swing there but Southee and CdG swing the ball anywhere so I don't think that's out of the ordinary.

If the Kiwis skittle out Aus this afternoon for under 320 then its game on. How serious is Lockie's injury?
