Roach was one of my early bowling inspirations, had such great energy. Took me years to realise he wasn't that good. Now he's lost a lot of his pace he's become a much cannier bower though.
Yeah Roach is properly good now. My enduring memory of him will be the fact that he was the one thing that made the West Indies look any different the rest of the teams in that World Cup qualifying tournament. There were two games I absolutely reckon they would've lost if he wasn't playing; they totally didn't look out of place playing at that level at all at the time.

They rewarded his arse-saving spells by... not selecting him for the first few games of the Cup proper.

Ishant got picked for like five years based on tour in which he averaged 70.
This is a bit of a myth. I'm sure that tour was a reason why they persisted, but his performance in the home series vs Australia later that year was what cemented him as a really promising prospect. People just cite that spell to Ponting but I'm pretty sure the selectors were thinking what he produced in India was what they were hoping he'd be.

Getting 2015 vibes up to the neck here...
A key pace bowler getting injured early on also has shades of England and Simon Jones in 02/03. Or for NZ Willie Watson on the 93 tour where Crowe also missed the final two tests.

I can't believe I'm witnessing Marnus score not only one ton, but three in three matches.

Thanks Jofra you magnificent pillock.

And how does the odd one just randomly rag like that day one? Gotta be the footmarks from Wagner, surely.
