*Official* Under 19 World Cup 2020

Akhil Kumar possibly getting a little weary in his third game in as many days, but we finally got the camera behind the bowler's arm for his new ball spell today at the New Zealand U19 national tournament, where he's been allowed to play for Central Districts via a club cricket affiliation. Allows a slightly more realistic guess of what speeds he'll be clocking if he gets a TV game next month, maybe high 130s.

Kumar's generating more talk in our NZ domestic thread than any of the guys who can actually represent NZ U19, tbh! Apart from maybe 17yo Adithya Ashok's relatively mild revs leg spin eliciting plenty of teenage soft dismissals and getting rewarded with brilliant bowling figures at times. The NZ U19 batting will have a bit of boundary-clearing muscle to it this time too, but not a lot of new ball swing or rapid wheels spotted yet in the pace bowling department.

Tom Clarke looks tasty vs pace. Very quick onto the short ball. Both these WIndies opening bowlers look decent.

It will certainly be good for these English players to go through a test like this in terms of the opposition trying to intimidate them. First 10 overs were amazing in terms of hostility from the fielding side. Toughen them up.

Field has to remain as it stands for the free hit because no run was scored.
Silly point wisely leaves the field, so England only have 10 men on the field for the free hit.
Don't know if it's a regulation or it was just common sense, but it was the first time I've seen that.
Free hit was a dot after all also.

Aldridge for England really looks like he knows what he is doing, he gets extra bounce and bowls an excellent blind and length. For Windies Forde is a superb young bowler and Need a quality spinner. Hopefully we will get to see Ramon Simmonds next match, he's rapid.

The umpiring was really really poor, it's a big problem for us. England got s couple of shockers, as did we.

I think there was quite a lot of lip in the first match from a couple of England fielders when they started bowling really well. I saw England doing similar then. It's good for both sides to face aggressive bowling and close in fielding.

Like you say, it will toughen them up.

Windies Under 19 are 72/7 against Sri Lanka Under 19. It's nice to see our batsmen are every bit as bad as the seniors!

Excellent bowling from the leggie Kavindu Nadeeshan though. Really nice variations have bamboozled our lower middle order.

Sri Lanka won by 1 wicket in the end as our bowlers really battles. Ramon Simmond's took 3 wickets bowling very quickly. He looks like a young Mitchel Starc during his bowling stride.

The scores so far in these matches suggest that the pitch isn't the best but having watched a fair bit, it's not terrible. The bowling has just been really impressive from all 3 sides and the batting really ordinary.

Australia U19 World Cup squad: Cooper Connolly, Oliver Davies, Sam Fanning, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Mackenzie Harvey, Lachlan Hearne, Corey Kelly, Liam Marshall, Todd Murphy, Patrick Rowe, Tanveer Sangha, Liam Scott, Bradley Simpson, Connor Sully, Matthew Willans

Most of that is more or less along the lines of what I expected, team seems to have been largely selected before the national carnival. Couple of noteworthy surprises though. Connolly is a real bolter, 16 year old allrounder who bats in the top order and bowls left arm chinaman, U17 player of the tournament earlier in the summer and then had a really strong U19 tournament as well. Two players with Shield experience already in JFM and Scott, a handful of others have state rookie contracts. Questionmarks over Davies at this stage though, has a busted arm explains why he didn't play recently, he should be fine but its no certainty.

From a South Aussie point of view, good to see Corey Kelly in the squad, but it's a shame his twin brother won't be with him.
