CW Decides The XI of the Decade

I think with this seam attack I'd probably use Steyn as first change. At least in South Africa and India. Although it would feel a bit ridiculous.

On anything other than the greenest of greentops Anderson and Philander in the same attack would be a fundamentally bad decision, it really needs to be one or the other. I would strongly lean towards Big Vern obviously, but either could well fill the medium-fast swing and seam bowler role

Does Broad not deserve a mention? 400 wickets in the decade, and some devastating match winning spells. Bowled a lot with the new ball I suppose but he's still a proven bowler and I think he'd go better than philander as first change even though he's not as good overall.

Philander can definitely do well at any stage of the innings so long as the conditions give him a little bit to work with. But yeah, he wouldn't be my first choice as third seamer. Why was Rabada not picked? Seems a more natural fit for that kind of role.

Definitely deserves a mention. I've always disliked him since that incident with Zulfiqar Babar but there's no doubt he's been excellent.

What a weird team - I guess that's the problem with 'decades'...much of the best pacers (or at least the ones that have shown the most promise or ability to bowl in a variety of conditions) have really come of age in the last ~3-4 years at best, while the biggest wicket takers have been playing the entire decade.
You can't have BOTH Anderson and Philander in one team surely...

Steyn aside, you'd like to face that attack for a living ,wouldn't you? Certainly one of the poorer "Team of" bowling line ups I've seen, which is kind of odd, as I think bowling overall is better now than it has been at any time since the late 90s.
Yea - think it's also possibly that there are less 'superstar' names necessarily and just better bowling units as a whole. Like the Indian team for instance.

Haha it was Zulqarnain Haider.

Most importantly

Aside from a reprimand for excessive logos, Broad - whose father is the ICC match referee, Chris Broad - has never yet been found guilty of a breach of the ICC's Code of Conduct, despite numerous moments in his three-year Test career when he has sailed close to the wind.

His persistent failure to acknowledge the umpire when appealing for lbws has irked several onlookers, while he escaped without punishment after stepping on the ball during the Cape Town Test against South Africa back in January.

I really don't want to harp on about this but if the bloke who has taken over 400 wickets at 24 in a decade is not considered an automatic non-negotiable choice in the team of the decade, then we really should just pack it in with this exercise as it's obviously meaningless.

It is meaningless. It’s an opinion poll to choose a hypothetical team that will never take the field.

It’s like critiquing music and life. There to pass the time.

Yeah it's like picking an NSW XI, an all time left handers XI (there's an idea) or Latin XI, it's all the same really. Equally meaningless, we're not here for gold stars.

Anderson is averaging 24 in this decade but if we go a little deep in those numbers, he averages 31 in Aus, 38 in SA, 36 in India, 32 in NZ and 30 in SL. He has done well in his own home conditions as well as UAE and WI where he averages in the low 20s. Playing more home matches than away helps his average as well.
I would have him in this decade's XI(as would many others), but it is more down to lack of alternate options.

Yeah he's a definite option too.

Steyn and Herath are ahead of Cummins and Lyon at this point. I also don't think Philander is behind either Hazlewood or Starc. Anderson certainly is behind both Hazlewood and Starc in unfriendly conditions though. So overall the decade attack wins.
I don’t like to say anything good about Anderson but he is ahead of both Haze and Starc in both friendly and unfriendly conditions. Should be shoe in for the team of the decade.
