I thought there was no chance of a 1st innings lead when KW was dismissed, but since then there has been 227 runs for 2 wickets.

BJ Watling, absolute legend. Another great ton ... no batsman anywhere in the world that I'd rather have walking out in a crisis.

Good stat from cricinfo

Santner looked shaky against Leach to start, but has a very good record against spinners. He averages 42.00 against spin in Tests, compared to 16.53 against seamers.

I've missed the start of Santner's innings. Is there a reason he is refusing to play the pull?

It's just been his approach all innings. Really struggled early on but at least has stuck it out and improved a bit as the innings has gone on.

the "santner is bad against the short ball" meme while true has blinded england to the fact that you can get him out bowling normally. props to him though, good guts.

Santner just seems to get worse and worse with the bat ... really struggling out there atm. Can we even call him an all-rounder?

He isn't a genuine test bowler-and is batting is more like a number 9 than 8.
Also gets called smart just because he looks smart lol.
Possibly one of the dumbest cricketing minds I've ever seen.
The guy left the last ball of the cwc final, not to draw a wide/no ball but because he kind of forgot.

Ya his bowling justifies his place in the Odi team but his selection as a spinner in tests ahead of ajaz patel and sommerville is not only comical but its corruption imo. He's been chosen because the selectors like his personality rather than on his cricketing performances .

250 runs for the loss of only 2 wickets is a good day's work for NZ. Watling is glue.

Ideally we don't lose early wickets in the morning and get a lead of 200+ by mid-afternoon. I'm curious to see how Southee bats.
