So happy Burns is finally given another chance. I'd rather Burns than 'whiteball' Warner actually.

Warner does well in WC, then crashes in Ashes and still wouldn't play in the tour games. Now does well in T20i and sits out the last shield game to be with family, even though the game was in his home town of Sydney anyway. Sounds like he couldn't be stuffed playing lesser games anymore, even though his red ball cricket sucks lately.

In the last 4 years Warner has averaged only 38.00 with 6 hundreds in 34 Tests. Burns has 3 hundreds in 12 Tests during same period, so Warner is not the batting god we're looking for.

Wagner's historically been a completely different batsman home as opposed to away. Never had an ordinary home Test summer whereas with the odd exception has been a liability outside Oz.

It is interesting how some T20 runs and patchy Shield form have made everybody completely forget his rotten Ashes series.

Not sure anyone has forgotten. We've just accepted at the very least the whole 'credits in the bank' meme put out by the selectors as being tolerable at the least given the sheer lack of other options.

Just think, Bancroft and Harris could be our openers in 12 months.

Warner’s fine. Be extremely silly to drop him at home, especially for the current lot.

Yeah he’s still easily the best opener Australia has at home, and that by a mile

Think I can go down with that. Not as happily as I would on my crush if a chance was offered but nevertheless it's ok. Still not convinced Burns as an opener but he is better than Bangers for sho

Khawaja says hello given Whiteball form seems to count more than the red.
Khawaja’s chance to shine was last summer when smith and Warner werent there. He was pathetic. The anti-Steve Waugh. He’s done. Stick a fork in him

Is there still the level of excitement and anticipation before the first test of the summer, as there has been in past years?

Have to give credit to Pakistan as well, who have at least agreed to play in Brisbane.

I think the last time I was genuinely anticipating a first test was in 14/15 against India, in no small part in wanting to see the post-Hughes world. And that test was so dramatic and full of angry people its almost unfortunate that everything to come didn't live up to the hype.

But then what did we get, Windies and New Zealand on the flattest decks ever seen, South Africa destroying Australia cricket the next year followed by a dessert of a terrible Pakistan team. And that was followed by a boring Ashes, Indian pacers discovering meat and a typical Sri Lankan performance including boredom, too many retired hurts and people wishing anything else was on the television at that moment.

Incredibly depressing.

That's one of the downsides of playing T20s/ODIs in October/November, it dilutes the anticipation for the usual Brisbane November Test.

But with cricket so accessible all the time now, it will never be what it was like a generation ago. I can still remember vividly the anticipation for the 1990 Ashes & 1992 Windies Gabba Test after not being able to see any international cricket on Oz TV for over 6 months.

No, the air is not exactly pregnant with anticipation

No real advertising of the game either

All told, it's pretty flat

There's the usual banners in the cbd but nobody is really anticipating a tour by Pakistan.

Rained on and off for the day I was at the NZ Test too which didn’t help matters....

That ashes test though had one of the best Smith innings' of all time.
Do you remember what it was like to watch over after over of England trying to bowl as wide as possible in the hopes that Smith would be fazed by needing a million years to hit his ton?

I like cricket, and even I began asking myself why people like this **** sport.
