Too long a tail.

Rohit
Sachin
Kohli
Sehwag
Yuvi
Dhoni (c)
Raina
Kapil
Shami
Kuldeep
Bumrah

Yuvi, Sehwag, Raina, and Sachin to bowl 10+ overs between them.
What has Kuldeep done? I’d rather have Jadeja in there - gun player, and strengthens the tail (bats just after Kapil).

Not sure Sehwag is a #4...

Yeah, I forgot Dhoni. Yuvraj is decent to good, not close to being great.
Yuvraj is definitely a ODI great. Has done marvellous things in the ICC tournaments as well as played very good innings outside of them. Great fielder and good bowler to boot.

I think you are comparing him to openers in ODI history. Compare him to the other ATG number 4s and you won't find too many better than him.

Not a bad shout, Jadeja over Kuldeep. Kuldeep's a better bowler, I feel.

Sehwag is more of a floater than a #4

Kuldeep's definitely got more potential, but has stagnated a bit recently and had a mediocre World Cup. As did Chahal.

Yuvraj used to go through some prolonged patches of lean form, so his average probably doesn't stack up that well. Was our most important player in the 2011 win though.

his 138* against eng back in the day was some of the cleanest hitting in an odi you'll ever see

Yuvi's hitting was what dreams are made of, he was one of those players you could watch the first three deliveries and immediately know whether he was in the mood. The cancer was such a shame, he was tough enough to come back but the hitting/eyes were never the same.

Totally agree on better bowler part, but he **** it big time in the World Cup. While I'm not Burgey-extreme with "finals or bust", I do think there should be a fair amount of weightage towards performance at least in the World Cup itself, rather than JAMODIs.

Jadeja didn't really do much with the ball in the World Cup (but wasn't really given a chance to I suppose), but my did he turn up - as a batsman, as a fielder.

I suppose it depends on how much weightage you really want to give to your spinner vs having a great pace attack - it definitely helps having a top spinner but South Africa have done so well for so long without one (mind you, they keep shitting it in the World Cups so maybe...), that having someone who can just hold up an end like Jadeja could be enough, especially when he's contributing like THAT with the bat and on the field.

ABDV and Merchant deserve to be on there for average as keeper and FC average, but he doesn't take those things into account.

Bagy, why did everyone get the full name treatment apart from poor oh ah who's name was shortened.

I think we are going to have to restart this thread now.

Yeah fair enough. I realise now that McGrath's stats are incredible for his time. Can't really find a space for Ambrose or Steyn because of Hadlee's batting.
If I'm picking a team, and because of similar styles, would't play both Hadlee and McGrath. So if I'm playing Hadlee because of his batting, Marshall and Steyn and my other two pacers and opening bowlers.
