This could be the most depressing summer in terms of excitement since NZ and the Windies were here last in 15/16.

Never saw a tour thread move as slowly as the Windies one did.
At least the dung series is first this time. NZ might **** the bed but I think they're a very good chance of taking it up to us.

The 2000/01 summer was probably the worst I can recall; watching that awful Windies side for 5 Tests was enough to put me off Test series of that length for life. And the extended tri-series involving Zimbabwe & the Windies was so one-sided it probably began the process of ending the tri-series format.

Hope NZ put up a better show this time. Last time they were useless apart from Kane and Taylor in Perth.

If nothing else, the match just underlined that if Australia can't win a T20 WC next year in home conditions, they never will. Australian pitches should suit their strengths in this format perfectly and finally they seem to be taking the format seriously instead of just being random as has been the case in recent seasons. Still not convinced Smith is needed in this format though.

When Sri Lanka have previous toured Australia, they've usually been dire in Tests but usually held their own in T20s & ODIs but seems no chance here. Staggering gap between the two sides; Sri Lanka couldn't even manage 100 off 20 overs and that was with Australia missing three very gettable chances.

As an aside, found Fox Sports coverage largely insufferable today. Mark Howard's general inanity (and he's there for the entire match), the general backslapping self-indulgence from the commentators, Mark Waugh seemingly taking pride in not being able to pronounce the surnames of the Sri Lankan players, those pointless player interviews during play and in the innings break, that new speed gimmick which provides pseudo-insight. Just one big dungheap.

When 7 & Fox got the cricket rights, I was expecting Fox to go down the serious coverage angle and Ch 7 to go down the lowbrow 'entertainment' angle in the belief that appeals to the general public but if anything it's been the complete opposite. Just a shame Ch 7 are only doing the Tests as so far I much prefer their style of coverage.

Mark Howard is the sycophant's sycophant. But Waugh was especially atrocious, such a ****ing deadbeat in the Comms box.

Guha also commentates like someone who has never had any excitement in their life and tries to do an impression of it when a wicket falls.

Didn't channel 7 get the director who did channel 10's BBL coverage to run it? If so that explains their superior coverage. Well that and Ponting.

Starc to miss 2nd T20 to go to his brothers wedding, so Stanlake or Abbott to play.

You'd think a wedding could be planned around his brothers matches ;)

Really shits me when bowlers cbf to get back to the stumps when there's a run out on. You're not a spectator, you're actually kind of important in that situation!

Gunathalika sold his partner up the river there. Mendis can actually bat so he should have sacrificed himself

Good to see the usual crowd for a Shield match has shown up at the Gabba for this blockbuster.

It should be mid-on or mid-off's job to get to the stumps in that situation (with the other one backing up) rather than the bowler

I could be rewatching a later episode of Two and Half men right now instead of this.
