Why aren't there more spinner all rounders?

Harby’s run up was, as some have said, almost balletic. I thought his action was pretty filthy though, in his early days anyway. His front foot used to face towards point when it landed. As an exercise, try doing that and keeping your arm straight. Maybe he changed it later in his career, but it didn’t seem as troublesome to me as time went on. Though afaik there was never an issue so it may well just have been my perception.

Certainly not Gannon -level or anything like that.
I suppose we have different tastes. No harm in that.
Yeah, and in fairness Harbhajan hardly had a traditional offie action so comparing him to Warne is probably unfair anyway.

Bhajji certainly light-years ahead of Lyon/Swann etc in terms of how nice his action was to watch.

Oh yeah, for sure. Had so much energy in his approach and action.

I prefer non-chuckers personally but can't deny that he was effective for a time

excuse me?

gormless virat kohli's and his ilk getting bounced out by a sub 140 bowler bowling marathon spells of bouncers will never get boring
This is literally the fast bowling equivalent of a spinner who just tosses up pies waiting for the batsman to eventually hole out to the fielder in the deep

Yep. He just bungs it halfway down for five straight overs until someone gets bored and flaps at one.

That's how all spinners get wickets.

Wagner is a strange case. Usually you would have to be a good 10kph quicker to bowl that length but he has made it work for him for long enough that it is certainly no fluke.

Still not sure if I love or hate it tbh

It's certainly persistent, if nothing else. I wonder what it is about his action which makes it effective for him when it isn't for blokes who are quicker? It isn't like he has a particularly unsual action or one where the ball is hidden from view in his delivery stride. At least it doesn't look that way from 150 metres away behind his arm, anyway.

I think he's really good at getting the ball to carry through at an awkward length, right in between "take it on" and "get out of the way". It's like the McGrath length that traps you between playing forward and back, except for bouncers.

I don't think he's really beating batsmen for pace so much as he's beating them for length, as they don't know which ones they should be trying to score off and which they shouldn't. If he was quicker batsmen would probably decide evasive action was more consistently a better option and so strangely make him less effective.

Yeah, makes sense. So it's essentially a waiting game playing him. Certainly a tiring MO, if nothing else.
