Could a 'Mabber' for example be picked after McGrath though if it's based on Mac?

Not sure; Statsguru's list of M players starts with McAlister and after all the Mc and Mac players the next is Madan Lal, so it's probably a moot point.
Might also be worth checking how they're listed if you pick a player with (e.g.) a "de" or "van" in their name.
