This was an interesting stat someone showed on cricinfo, if India win this test we will have 240 points in the test championship, rest of the teams all combined have 232.
WI played a pathetic wi team away and a rebuilding rsa at home. Not all that surprising tbh. I'd fully expect them to blank Bangladesh as well. And both about this Indian team reminds me of mid 2000 Australia. That Australian team entered every series home and away as heavy favorites (except maybe India away). This indian team is heavy favorites at home, away to wi and SL that's it.

It's just a funny stat, I wasn't trying to prove a point with it.

Regardless, I don't recall Windies being pathetic before the India series, they had some pretty decent results and manage to clinch at least one test in most series they played. SA I will agree with, they have been bad for some time now and wouldn't be any better unless they fix their batting issues.

This Indian team is possibly the best I've seen in a while and tbh yeah I'm jealous lol. Very very competitive away and utterly ruthless at home.

Rohit's series would make for an interesting stress test for statistical models. On paper he's been batting against a really strong attack, with the question marks over the new bowlers kinda being covered by the fact that 5 bowlers have been playing.

He has scored a ton of runs, effectively shutting Rsa out completely in 2/3 games, and has upped his tempo to be match winning at the appropriate times.

One of the leading candidates for atg series for bats if we ignore how RSA have bowled.

Australia. Steve Smith factor + a decent bowling line-up.
I don't think current Australian team have a chance tbh. Mainly because of non-contribution from other batsmen. I know last series was very close but that also had to do with India handing out rank-turners in first two games which I don't see them doing anytime soon. On a normal Indian wicket like the ones in this series, Aussie team will get hammered just like everyone else. Smith alone can't get Australia to 450+ each time. If they get another decent batsman, then it's a different story.

Will they resume play at 9:00 AM at least from today ? There is no way they are going to get match running until 5:00 PM.

You asked the question and I answered it. :) On the same factors as you have mentioned above, I don't think any other team stand a chance too.

Also, Australia unearthed Labuschagne in the Ashes. I still have some faith in Head. If Warner can rediscover his old form, then the batting line-up will start looking stable again.

Typical series for Elgar. One score, usually early on and then lots of failures. He has only averaged over 50 twice in a test series where there have been 3 tests or more and last instance of that was nearly 3 years ago.

Meh we did manage to draw the one time we got something closer to a typical Indian wicket. Oddly it was the most Australian wicket where we got convincingly beaten the most.

Failing us, probably New Zealand? Bowling attack the question mark but the batting can probably stay in matches the most and Southee and Boult do have good subcontinental records. Long-shot but.....

Overall I feel like it's going to be a long time before anyone beats India in India in a series....like after the current generation of players, which makes any predictions foolish.

Yeah if we consider recent performances, it's no contest between Australia and the others. Speaking about recent past, Pakistan with Misbah and Yunis would have a fair chance against this side.

Yea Australia gave us a really good series at home - only team that's been even remotely competitive. The others were all whitewashes, or close to whitewashes. I think the few times we failed to completely whitewash was usually weather related, or the pitch was too dead. I don't even recall losing any tests other than to Australia - did we lose to England?
