Hard to ignore Rohit after this maybe? Or maybe a few more home series and he'll be a lock. Strange not to see Dravid/Laxman in an ATG Indian XI but makes sense I suppose...

Yeah, Rohit needs to do a bit more. He is competing with Gavaskar and Sehwag after all. Dravid/Laxman were quite clearly excellent in home as well, just that their competitors are better.

Selecting someone who isn’t a regular opener in Tests?

And how can you criticise inclusion of Archer for not playing in India then?
Azhar Ali opens for Pakistan, actually. Didn't start out as one but has opened plenty of times now.

Wrt Archer has never even played in Asia. Someone like Mohammad Abbas has an excellent record in Asia so there is a decent basis for selection. Cummins and Boult should be ahead of him too. Holder is another one who has done well in Asia.

He was an opener in domestic cricket before getting picked for Tests in the middle order. He has opened a bit now but has been back in the middle order since Younis and Misbah retired, more to shore it up than any other reason. He's equally at home opening as he is at #3 -- he actually averages more opening -- but "opens for Pakistan" isn't quite entirely true at the moment. Imam and Masood are the incumbent openers.

I'd absolutely open with him in a Rest of the World team to play in India -- that I certainly agree with. I don't hate the Archer pick that much though even though I wouldn't go that way; your main objection to it does apply equally to Azhar really.

Not *equally*. At least Azhar has done well in UAE and SL and Bangladesh. That's better than never having played in this part of the world.

I would want VVS in there. India don't get into too many crisis situations at home, but if there is one, there's no one I'd rather have.

Linde is good to watch. Good action, lands it at the right spots consistently, good length, good bounce. Just needs some work.

Yeah, Linde has been quite decent. Hasn't really bowled too many bad balls over the course of the game.

they are already out

variable bounce will get worse and they won't cope with jaddu and shami darting it in
Nah, 500 is minimum for a first innings score on this strip. If they bat as badly as they have so far it won't matter too much, but yeah.

Jadeja is legit worthy of this side as a specialist bat atm. Pretty cool
Nice jinx.

I still think Vihari is better as a batsman alone, and Gill+Pant+Nair would probably give him a run for his money too, but the fact that these are kind of debatable is still pretty awesome, especially given it's not like India have a struggling batting lineup. I'd definitely pick him for a few other teams.

Piedt was actually a decent young offie with a great first class record until he dislocated his shoulder in the 2014 Champions League.Never really was the same after that.Had a FC bowling average of 24 or something before the shoulder injury compared to 32 now.
