It’s always been grim. Had our Windies in the 80s moment between 86 and 2003. Now reverted to mediocre type. This is what Australian rugby really is. I don’t understand how otherwise intelligent people fail to comprehend this.

I really think Barrington-Smthye from Nudgee College and Johnston-Ponsonberry out of Joeys are the answer to the Wallabies’ lack of starch up front. Keep looking in those nurseries for the answers, fellas. If you get taken to school in a sedan chair you cannot compete with people from real back grounds.

But our selectors will never look west of anzac parade for a player. It’s hilarious.

That Garry Owen from Ireland just outside the attacking 22 is the white flag for 'we have no idea how to beat your defence'. Real danger of running it to zero now.

Anyway, I hope NZ win this tournament by a cumulative +1000 points. They play how it’s meant to be played and do it with players drawn from all over instead of the silver spoon brigade like our blokes. There is a reason the rah rah is 4th of four codes played here, and it’s basically because it’s had its head up its own arse since the 1930s at least

My read was he made no attempt at a tackle and then covered the base of the posts so the Irish couldn't touch down there.

So I watched the second half of the England-Australia game. Some thoughts

1) This is exactly how we beat Aus in Aus in 2016. Kick deep, absorb as much pressure as possible by rushing the support runners. Defend like buggery and wait for the mistake as the Wallabies throw something desperate. The fact that Chieka hasn't adapted to this at all is very typical of him and this was the result. Australia have become a very predictable side.

2) England's back five were absolutely relentless, especially Curry, and it vindicates the decision to pick Lawes ahead of Kruius even though that significantly damages our scrum. The scrum was looking pretty vulnerable early on but they just about clung on while taking advantage of Courtney's speed in defense. I expect England to play completely differently in the semi and so I expect Kruis to be back and shore up the set piece.

3) Farrell's pass to put Sinckler through for the try made me shed a tear it was so good. It deserves a sonnet

4) After all the pre-match doomsaying, Garces was completely fine. Skeen not so much, but you can't have everything. I'm surprised he didn't intervene to discuss the tip tackle on Vunipola in the first half.

Hopefully Chieka is gone, and something with an ounce of brain comes in.

I just realised how disappointing it must be for Australian fans to have both Hooper and Pocock during this period. Genia as well was legite the best player in the world in his position for a while.
