***Official*** English Football Season 2019-20

I remember last season when Liverpool had that five point lead. I made a post saying that a few draws wipes it out (which of course happened as well as the City win against them) . Even if you can't see any teams beating them, it doesn't mean they'll win the league (Christ, the standard of the top two is incredible for that to be true).

8 games into the season and everyone around are talking as if there are 8 games left in the season. December is going to be a nightmare for Liverpool with an added incentive of club World Cup to chase and thus adding to their burden.

Indeed if Liverpool can make it through the December gauntlet, then and only then can you really start talking about them winning the title.

Ironically I think this time round they might actually do it, unlike last year where I was confident they wouldn't, but it's waaaay too early to call it

Can't believe the amount of people calling the title race.

I mean they are obviously favourites at this stage but it's October FFS. Has history taught us nothing?
Liverpool and City are so far clear of the rest of the pack that 8 points is a huge deficit to make up.

It's been at least 18 months (I can't actually remember who it was) since a team other than City have beaten Liverpool in the league.

It may only be October but the gap is massive.

Think Liverpool will start dropping points but also City have been conceding a lot more big chances than the last two seasons (and according to the stats, 16/17 too). Given Laporte is out for a while, that problem might not go away that easily. I also wonder if Rodri is a downgrade on Fernandinho defensively, but haven't watched enough to properly judge.

Still 30 games left and the max number of points they can get is 106. How many do we think they'll need for the title? Similar to last season probably (that would mean Liverpool going, say, 23-4-3 to end with 97 again) which means they've already dropped half the number of points they can. Maybe Liverpool will do worse, there's reason to think they might not be as good a team as last year, but they already have a head start. Would anyone be confident predicting them to drop points in 25% of their remaining fixtures?

Of course they will. I'm just saying 8 points in a two horse race where both teams are hugely superior to the rest of the league is a huge advantage.
So much can happen in 30 games though. You can't just assume they'll be as good as they are now right through until June. Sure, they could get even better too, or City could get worse. But you need to bake in a lot of uncertainty.

It seems like the sort of topic where you'll get people saying "I'm not interested in their private lives!"
