5th Test at The Oval, London

It's just always gonna seem like the team you follow are decent blokes and the team you're trying to beat rude pricks
I get that. But it does so often happen that when there are rude pricks on the other team, that other team is Australia. Ask anyone around the world. You won’t see the same behaviour, to the same degree, from anyone else.

Sure mate

"Cricket writer for The Telegraph, Isabelle Westbury, said on Twitter Stokes called David Warner a “f***ing prick” as the players left the field at lunch"

Ive randomly selected pages to read to catch up on the CW commentary. Remarkably your whinging has featured on all of them or at least seems like it. As it’s unlikely the stump mic will be turned off how about you exercise some control over your keyboard? Because atm you are the forum’s short leg and gobshiteing the thread. flibbertygibbet has lost his form recently. Looks like this bloke has taken his place as resident pommy nark.

England have slightly left open the door here for us because of the Steve Smith factor. We’d need everyone to actually chip in for once though so I don’t see if happening

What’s wrong with chirping when your team is behind? It often gets everyone going and keeps them in the game instead of switching off.

Only unacceptable for send offs and if the content is really inappropriate.

I think with all the scandalous Australia have had, they pretty much have to be perfectly behaved for the next five years or so. It’s not that fair but we kind of have to wear it.

Smith should look after his average and try to remain not out..

No way in hell they are chasing this so might as well..

This Test has given me new found appreciation for the England 10/11 series in the sense of “showing how difficult it is to win away from home”. In terms of effort and temperament I can’t fault Australia’s much at all yet it still only looks like being a draw. Ok that England side > this Australian one but still...

dude stop, we get it, you have a chip on your shoulder.

If anything this Australian side are being too nice, though it's understandable why. To seriously suggest that they are worse than the English side they are up against, with Stokes, Archer, Broad and co. is astonishing

Australia really don't deserve to draw let alone win this. I suppose a two day rearguard would earn them their dibs but what a miserable performance overall it has been. Toss, bad fielding, spineless batting, (non)-use of DRS. They haven't turned up at all.

Forgot selection! Pick up a stock third seamer to give the others a break. Guy had bowled only four overs until the 53rd of the second innings.

Unless we go at 2 an over the draw is off the table really

Smith getting 225* and guiding us home with a couple of wickets in hand would be nice

England have been quite chatty too during the series? Bairstow doesn't mind banter

Yeah, apparently Roy had plenty to say in the last test to. Roy for ****'s sake!? What could he have possibly had to say? He's a very poor man's KP, with the only resemblance being both look like they've been dipped in a vat of moisturiser and employ the duck's arse pout in their profile photos. England have been quite chatty, so they have nothing to complain about. If they find glory in shutting the gate once The Ashes has bolted, then good luck to them.

It's been a piss poor performance. I didn't bother watching much of it last night. In fact, since the 1st session effort on Day 1, I've been about as interested as the players seemed to be. It's disappointing, as they had a good opportunity to actually win the series against an average English team. I'm still not sure why we bowled first when the opportunity was there to rest the bowlers a little more, but then if we could produce an even semi-decent performance with the bat, it probably wouldn't have been an issue.

This series has been a real eye opener for me in terms of how English and Australian fans value the retaining of the Ashes. I never really thought it was that big a deal and winning it was the only important thing.

Slight over-reaction I think. Apart from a couple* of posts about the Australians’ gobbiness, my contribution was largely the same anodyne drivel that I usually churn out. But sorry if I’ve gone OTT.

And yes there’s a number of gobby idiots on our team, and they should keep their mouths shut too. Try to show the umpires and the opposition some respect.

*Edit: Ok on review I probably posted a few. Bit tiresome. Apologies.

Retaining allows continuity and continuity is a big part of a traditional narrative like the Ashes.
