4 day stuff begins again tomorrow. 3 rounds remaining with all teams playing each round.

Essex lead Somerset by 2 points in the fight for the county championship. The two teams face off in the last game of the season at Taunton starting on 23 september. Hopefully it goes down to the wire. https://www.espncricinfo.com/table/series/8052/county-championship-division-one

Only one team down this year from division 1 and Notts need a miracle as they are currently bottom and 42 points adrift of Warwickshire. Maybe possible with 3 wins for Notts, and 3 defeats for Warwickshire but seeing as Notts are yet to win this year and the weather closing in it really is improbable.

Division 2 is interesting with 3 teams going up. Lancashire are basically up. Teams in positions 2-8 still in with a chance of promotion, Gloucestershire and Northants currently sitting 2nd and 3rd right now. https://www.espncricinfo.com/table/series/8204/county-championship-division-two

You also get the feeling that runs in the last three rounds of the Championship will decide who is on the plane to New Zealand in November.

Going back to Adam Lyth, James Vince and Gary Ballance on the cards ? Got to hope not.

Lions squads will also be interesting.

Interest seems to be more with Sibley, Crawley, Pope and Malan but none of the names you mention have been forgotten if they finish strong (except perhaps Vince).

Moeen Ali another one worth keeping an eye on.

I see what you're doing here. The replacements fail meaning that Lyth, Vince and Ballance get the next tour, coincidentally in South Africa...

Ollie Pope doing his cause no harm today. 57* at time of writing, on a day when 15 wickets have fallen at Southampton for 250. Vince (batting at 5 ffs) and Northeast both failing.

Sibley's 51 against one of the better attacks in the CC won't have passed unnoticed either.

Two classics of dismissals so far today.

We have the Steve Davies casual drive on the up to be caught in the covers. 2nd time in the game caught in the ring with the casual drive.
And the Samit Patel helping a short ball straight down the throat of fine leg (or deep backward square).

Both guys have made careers out of getting out in the exact same way.
Both irritate me massively. Patel especially doesn't appear to try to keep the ball down or even hit it for six. He just helps it straight to the fielder. Davies just gives catching practice from point to cover.

I always hoped Davies would amount to more. Good cricketer.

But I love him because it's our year.

You're well placed to overtake Essex after this round of matches. Good luck to your lads; I have a couple of Somerset supporting friends, so no complaints if they win it this time.

Isn't James Vince frustrating? Looks like he's creaming a talented Surrey attack around the park on a tricky wicket but that final conversion to tests... ah well. To be fair over the last 18 months England have not helped his career much.

Brydon Carse could get a lions callup. When fit and in rhythm gets it down the other end nicely. And can bat a bit too.

Jamie Overton having a career best season also. Could get a Senior tour callup if Wood and Stone (the backup fast bowlers) aren't fit for the winter. Otherwise likely lions cricket too.

Yorkshire in a sorry state with Fraine and Coad injured/ill. Making it easy for Somerset.

Old man played for Rhodesia and Eastern Province in the Currie Cup days. He schooled in Port Elizabeth before leaving for Durham academy. Honestly didn't know he had that sort of potential.

Darren Stevens age 43 finishing the season well. 10 fer and 88 runs vs rock bottom Notts last week. 132* vs Yorkshire this week. Was to be released by Kent at the end of the season but it seems they are considering giving him a new contract. 43 wickets @ 19 in div 1 this year so it's not just div 2 these days.

Notts now they are down have found something. Mullaney out for 179 off 173 balls.

What a stinker of a season for Notts even with T20 "success".

Interesting seeing 17 year-old Joey Evison debuting. Been much talk about him for some time and quite frankly the academy for such a big club like Notts has been disappointing (particularly batting). Also Ben Compton schooled in Durban and cousin or brother of Nick debuting. Finally Jack Blatherwick a young fast bowler also making his FC debut. His uncle played for Forest a few times.
