Well england did show a lot of fight today. Can't complain about that. I didn't expect roy would be batting after the first hour today.

Only the second time in my cricket watching life where the Ashes haven't been won by the home side. Very impressed by the two sides I saw stop the home dominance. No secret England aren't a great test team at the moment, but it still takes a special effort to beat them (or draw) in their own backyard. Australia have a fantastic bowling attack and one of the best batsmen ever, which will always take you very far.

Joe Root isn't a woeful player. Just not in the best of form at the moment and he has received some cracking deliveries from some superb pace bowlers.

In other words, he’s David Warner. Of course Root can play but he’s been pretty average for a while now hasn’t he? Averages 35 or something the last year apparently. Let’s be honest, this series has been the Smith and Stokes show from a batting POV with the odd cameo from what’s been a very average support cast.

I’ve been a huge critic of Buttler but he had a good game here and was excellent today. Real test match batting. Certainly Roy needs to go you’d think

A good amount of heart shown from England today as well tbf. If you'd said Root and Stokes both failed you'd never have imagined them surviving over 90 overs.

But winning the World Cup and losing the Ashes has always felt like what England deserved from the balance of their performances and focus in the last few years.

Hope Buttler plays more domestic cricket to improve his FC game. Definitely something there compared to others.

Buttler made a conundrum for the selectors today, didn’t he? Head was right on the chopping block and I properly thought he was a hack, but that was a genuinely gutsy test match performance today, the sort of thing you want to see from anyone you give a cap to. Weird that a 40 odd on a losing side might be a turning point for a player, but I reckon he showed a ****ing lot of moxie today. Respect.
