So you've got Burns who's probably inked a winter place but obviously not a contender. Bairstow who's the keeper and let's be honest is under scrutiny. Buttler, Roy, Denly all under huge pressure just to keep their places.

Who gives a ****? Root cannot stay on as captain he's that awful and its destroyed his batting so much. Stokes would be a cluster**** of epic proportions, probably worse than the KP and Freddie. Bairstow is a coward and not a leader of men, and also has viable competition for his spot. Broad would be horrible, would over bowl himself, waste all the reviews and Jimmy is at the end of his career and its not like he doesn't have a history of missing tests due to injury.

He's the least bad option and actually has experience doing it and leading a team to victory, he gets it by default imo.

I think Broad would be pretty good, he always speaks really well and I think he would really relish the job. Would give us a couple of years and then maybe there would be someone more obvious.

Reality is that Root will probably keep it unless he himself gives it up.

It'll be interesting to see how many of the senior players decide to miss New Zealand in November. The four Tests in South Africa is a tough winter on its own.

Broad is terrible with reviews and his batting is comical. Hardly an inspiring choice, though as has been noted, options are slim.
