4th Test at Old Trafford, Manchester

Not watching, sounds like more awful captaincy from Root?
No short leg, only one slip, ring fielders are quite deep and everyone else is on the boundary. Easy singles everywhere and Wade can just shove his hands at anything out of the rough, knowing the inside edge is completely safe.

How can you not have a short leg in? We're already miles behind and need to take wickets, go aggressive ffs.

What’s Root up to, here? The plan appears to be hoping for a mishit to get a wicket.

Allowing this pair to settle is bonkers though, because they could easily add a swift 50 pre-declaration.

Honestly this reminds me a little of Ponting going to part timers in 07 in India. Just has such a strong stench of a captain giving up

And because the ring fielders are so deep, Aus are effortlessly milking 4+ rpo through singles.
It was like that in the first innings, ****ing rubbish, if we had managed to restrict you to <400 by keeping it tight we'd be in this game right now.

Want to see one more hundred from Smith. Reckon his series has already reached absurd levels, now I want to see some really obscene numbers by the end. Will have to motor though.

He’s got it arse about unless his openers told him they needed a bit longer to recharge. Leach leaking runs like this makes me reconsider Lyon’s effort, given he at least never let them get away.

It’s like he tried to have a bet each way - dry the game up and slow it down to make a draw more likely while hoping to jag another wicket, but Leach has let him down a bit (and Overton to a far lesser extent imo).

No point going on about it of course but Anderson has been such a huge loss, Archer first change would make such a difference.
