Surprised that Giffen lasted until the 5th round - possibly Australia's 2nd best allrounder behind Keith Miller (better than Armstrong, Benaud and Davidson imo).

Don't agree. Giffen basically had one great series and the rest of his career was pretty meh.

1894/95 Ashes: 475 runs at 52.77 with one century and three fifties, 34 wickets at 24.11 with three five fours
Rest of career: 763 runs at 17.34 with three fifties, 69 wickets at 28.56 with four five fours

With modern glasses on, one might think a bowling average of 28 is decent, but actually for a 19th century bowler it is a paragon of mediocrity.

Jack Gregory is the second best Australian allrounder for me.
