4th Test at Old Trafford, Manchester

Imagine how much he'd average if he was selfish like Lara or Bradman and didn't slog after grinding the opposition into dust. Triples come at the expensive of a win in draws or against minnows usually. Excluding timeless tests, of course. Let's hope the WTC final is timeless and Smith bats on for 3 days.
So do quadruples. One of the most selfish innings of all time

And next best Hayden's 380 was against the Zimbos and he was dropped 4 times IIRC

Dropped 4 times after he got to 300. And he hit it at such a rate that there was plenty of time left for Australia to bundle out Zimbabwe twice. Got out in the second session of day 2 IIRC.

What is with his very high percentage of 1st innings centuries?

There was that interview, I think in the first test, where he talked about how he only sleeps a few hours a night during tests. Maybe he is getting fatigued throughout the game more than others. Could there be room for improvement if he drank some warm milk at 10pm?

Lara managed only 5 not outs or something his whole career. If Smith had chanderpaul's mentality when batting with the tail, he'd average 75.

When you listen to Nasser commentate when Smith's batting, you get the feeling he is just waiting to stick the boot into his technique. Any praise he offers always feels a little emotionally dishonest.
Haha yeah always not far off from bringing up that one time when Smith failed in two tests in a row

His reaction to getting out after putting on a double hundred tells you everything. The guy is obsessed with scoring runs.

Why are you saying it like it was an unfortunate injury like a pulled hamstring or McGrath 2005. He misjudged the ball and got hit on the head.
Was worried about your absence yesterday (not really, the joint was infinitely better for it). R U OK or was Steve being mean to the bowlers when he left the ball again?

It’s no less unfortunate than Anderson risking a dodgy calf and it blowing up in the first test. They’re both bad news. Though Smith’s injury was obviously far more important in the context of the series.

Former England captain waiting to stick the boot in on Australian batsman that is literally scoring hundreds every time he bats against us with a scruffy horrible technique ? I can kinda see why any praise may be tinted with an inevitable hatred for him as a cricketer!

A day for our English batsmen to stand up! Another wet, windy and cold day in Manchester, while the pitch will offer something, the Aussies really won't want to spend all day in this kind of weather if we can somehow resist their attack.

There's nothing wrong with Smith's technique.
Smith's technique >>>> every other batsman in this series' technique
There are technical deficiencies, it's just bloody hard exposing them as he has unbelievable hand-eye coordination that gets him out of trouble. When I say he's scruffy and horrible that is meant more from an aesthetic point of view, I appreciate fundamentally a lot of the time, regardless of what happens before the ball arrives at him, he does get in technically a decent position.
