My boy Novak won!!!!!! Once again Federer chokes. It will be fitting when Djokovic breaks his record. Safe to say that if not for the 2004-2007 vacuum Fed would never have won as many slams as he has. Great player but too mentally weak under pressure against other great players. He has now lost all 4 five setters Vs Novak.

Its why Aus Open is so underrated, its one of the few which has not totally been slowed down.

Looking back 2017 what a gun year

Istomin and older Zverev smashing Murray and Djokovic off court and it looked like Dimitrov and younger Zverev were really kicking the door down. Some classic matches there.

Tomrrow, this is glorified green clay, Roger might get one set if lucky.
Was late to this thread so only seeing this after the semis and final.

All you can do is laugh really. Green clay.

He did better than expected obviously but this was the slowest grass in years which numerous players commented on. There is a reason why a clay mug like Pella got a quarter final and so few grass specialists did well.

Djokovic also played at 80% of his best. At best.

Roger was great. Those 2 match points will sting him for a while.

Very sad today to learn of the death of Peter McNamara aged 64. A more renowned doubles player, but made the last eight of three of the four Grand Slams.

There used to be a time when you'd often see doubles specialists who'd be dangerous floaters in a Wimbledon draw (Woodforde/Woodbridge/Haarhuis/Bjorkman etc.). Those players simply don't exist anymore.

Says a lot about how Wimbledon has slowed, though quite a few of the guys you mentioned were solid singles players too.

I think he was ranked well inside the top ten in singles before he blew his knee. May have made a Wimbledon semi final.

A mate of mine down in Melbourne is a big tennis head and tweeted yesterday about going to Kooyong in the off season (there used to be one apparently) and seeing the Macs practicing. Said they were awesome the way they put up with all the kids hanging around. One day he took a gift for Peter's new born baby down to the courts, but he wasn't there so he left it with the lady in the pro shop who got his details. A couple of days later a car pulled up at his house and a delivery arrived for him of a brand new racquet and cover, signed by Macca himself, with a note thanking him for his gift and card.

A proper gent. Will be sadly missed.

I see that Wimbledon are making full match replays available on YouTube. So good. Federer vs. Nadal and Federer vs. Djokovic from this year are already there and quite a few matches from previous years as well. Excellent move.

Unfortunately that's only good news for Nadal.. he'll probably win it now.

Well done to Stan though.

Federer has been crap at the US Open for years and has looked unconvincing (his last two opponents pretty much threw in the towel). They've slowed it down in recent years and Nadal generally does better here comparatively.
