Probably unprepared for how quickly it turned from a reasonably comfortable 70 run win to Stokes being a hit or two away from victory. I think they just mentally relaxed and thought he couldn't keep hitting as cleanly as he did.

he didn't tbf. Plenty of edges and mis-timed shots in there. Should have been caught at 3rd man off one of the quicks.

Agreed, but on that note it was one of those times this summer where you literally couldn't set a field to Stokes, even with everyone out and Lyon bowling fast and wide into footmarks Stokes was hitting sixes, just incredible

If Aus kept the field in to Stokes and he won it for them by smashing boundaries non stop for 7 overs everyone would criticise Paine for not having men out and trying to build pressure by drying runs

They did have several of the boundary rides a couple of steps in, but Stokes was either clearing them or finding the gaps so perfectly that they couldn't stop two anyways

The field you set for Stokes, was 9 fielders in the ring saving the single. He probably hits one of the 2 balls for 4 but you get Leach facing the full over.

Nah Australia choked enormously in the last five overs or so. Just lost it completely mentally, missed clear opportunities with awful decision making/basic skill execution (even if you discount Harris's catch as hard)
