When Aus 200 lead he will start talking lolCan’t wait for Warney to start going on about an early declaration. Gotta be willing to lose to win etc etc etc.
Cummins, say, doesn't seem to get the same amount from a similar length. Does need to be either fuller or moving less though, can't argue with that.Much of that is the length tbf. A very "pretty" length.
They need to make three key decisions and build the batting around it. First, they need to find a new opener and either shift Roy down the order or dump him altogether. It’s been a tough series for all batsmen except TPC but he and Bancroft just don’t look capable. I’d open with Denly.I'd happily only play one keeper. Probably Bairstow rather than Buttler. And Roy's in front of Denly for the push, surely.
Yeah I've thought he's looked not terrible.Shot. He has looked good before this series but thrown away starts.
Can't say it doesn't work for him though. You only really want to move it half a bad width after all.Cummins, say, doesn't seem to get the same amount from a similar length. Does need to be either fuller or moving less though, can't argue with that.
This in particular can't be said enough. We went through the same **** with Clarke when he was in his pomp; don't fix what isn't broken (and sometimes the only thing that isn't broken) to appease the Ian Chappells of the world. They need to make three key decisions and build the batting around it. First, they need to find a new opener and either shift Roy down the order or dump him altogether. It’s been a tough series for all batsmen except TPC but he and Bancroft just don’t look capable. I’d open with Denly.
Second, Root bats where he wants to, not where people want him to. If that means four or five, so be it.
Then they build their side around him.
Third. Stokes no higher than six imo.
So you’re looking for a three and a five. If sinply bring in the highest scoring defensive style opener in the CC and bat him (or Denly) three, the other one of them opens.
If they don’t stick with Roy, and tbh I wouldn’t, then your choice for number five is either Buttler, who I’d be tempted to punt as well because he’s a specialist batsman HIDING AT NUMBER SEVEN FFS WHAT EVEN KS THAT?!?!?! or I’d go back to Vince. Sure he hasn’t done it before, but he looks capable. And right now no one else does.
Anyway, these things aren’t easy to solve. If they were we’d both have better batting sides
Yeah I feel like too many people are talking down Harris because he missed out in one Test. Before that he was one of our better bats (not saying much but he looked decent)Yeah I've thought he's looked not terrible.
Pope in to bat 5. Most of the guys we have picked in the last few years average mid 30s in first class cricket, sure Pope has not played that many games but he averages over 50. Would probably be in the team already if he had not been injured. You go 4.Root 5.Pope 6.Stokes then pick between Bairstow, Buttler and Foakes as a keeper at 7. Then try and find a top 3.They need to make three key decisions and build the batting around it. First, they need to find a new opener and either shift Roy down the order or dump him altogether. Yes, I agree with all of that. Probably Sibley to open with Burns, Denly at 3 and Northeast or Pope at 5. We still wouldn't be world beaters, and we'd still struggle against this attack, but at least there's a logical plan there. They need to make three key decisions and build the batting around it.
