He does still get nice bounce off a decent length though. He's not Sami.
Yeah, Ferguson's point of delivery over that braced front leg of his gives him really sharp bounce. At 6'1" he's definitely tall enough. He'll be handy in Australian conditions if he's able to sustain 140+ over a 20 over day.

Hasn't Milne been playing T20s for Somerset over in the UK? Would've definitely preferred to see him over Rance. And no Neesham, which is strange given he's unlikely to be involved with the test side later this year so not *that* much in need of a break.
Kent, and he's not full pace. Operating at about 140kph tops.

Couple of surprising selections IMO, TAstle and T Bruce in particular. I second Moss' thoughts about Neesham. How has he not made it? Unless he excused himself which I doubt he would. Good to see Kane and Boult rested but Southee captaining the side? I doubt if he can keep his place in T20s. Really interested in see how Seifert goes in SL. He's a good enough player but need to see how he goes against spin. Tickener should have been tried in my opinion and not sure what T Bruce has done to get in the good books again. I can't for some reason remember any super smash games from last season.

Is that the end of Glenn Phillips? He's still very young but was hoping he was going to be the Big Mac for BCs.
Mmmm, viewing these T20s as JAMT20s it should be a glorified development squad imo, so would've liked to see Tickner and maybe Jamieson there, plus Phillips.

Salivating at the prospect - absolutely have to include him in the squad and then by the second test after someone (cough, Southee) disappoints in the first, Ferguson could be in the XI. With CDG as part-time fourth seamer we can afford Ferguson even if he bowls sub 20 overs per day.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
JAMT20 are good for international exposure, figuring where someone's head at re: pressures of elite cricket. Tickner acquitted himself well in this regard and disappointed he isn't in the squad. edit: bascially what strawman said. Rance has been a good domestic servant but I feel his place would be better held by someone else - unless we're banking on him playing the T20 WC and being a frontline player there.

Some very loose height chat going on in this thread while my back is turned.

FTR, Ferguson is not getting 6'1" and Jamieson certainly isn't getting 6'10"

Just on Santner, let's not lose sight of the fact this was his first test since December 2017 (!!). That injury really was badly timed in terms of maximising the gap between tests for him, he effectively missed 2 home seasons (save for a couple of tests against the Windies) and a 3-match series in the UAE which would have been the real chance to prove that he could play a key role in bowling us to victory.

In fact, this and two tests in India in 2016 are the only tests he's had in the subcontinent. I'm still hopeful....although a little concerned that he was almost used like a part-timer in the first test?

boulty was listed at 5'11" on google, and waggers is significantly shorter. he's taller than kanes listed 5'8" but i suspect kane could be a touch shorter than that and wagner is truly around that range.

th to comment?

Cricinfo seems to think that Dilruwan will come straight in for Embuldeniya, giving us a grand total of 3 off-spinners, one who probably still chucks, one who is old and ****, and one who doesn't really spin it. Would also be incredibly unfair to the guy who has been central to a couple of good wins, his spell upfront in the 2nd dig to get KW and Rosco proved very decisive even if it was loose batting, just dire forward planning too, Dilruwan should only get picked out of the trash in order to help prop up the spin attack in the event of Akila copping the one year ban while we have a heavy Asian schedule

nah, these are all a bit harsh. Boult is probably a bit over 5'11" (but maybe not quite 6'), Wagner seems a fairly solid 5'10" and I've always felt 5'8" was also a bit harsh on Kane. Like Boult, he's probably on the high side of the listed height.

Kane holds up well against 5'9" listed Kohli and 5'9 1/2" listed Steve Smith and is very similar in height to 5' 8 1/2" listed Aaron Finch. He looks a tad taller than 5'8" with these guys and I think all of their listings are fairly close to reality.

yeah but kohli and his fans are exactly the sort of weaklings to get anxious about something as silly as his height and add an extra foot.

Wow I've never considered looking for TH's approval of players I like based on them actually being 6'0 + before. Excellent work.
Haha I've never considered before the perils of exaggerating someone's height in a thread TH might frequent either.

Also we should pick Tickner more, at seven foot tall he's gotta be delivering the ball from a height of what, 11 foot? That's going to confuse the little lankans.

Very good from hendrix, Santner is indeed in that 6' - pushing 6'1" (but definitely not quite there) range, although you'd think he's taller given how often his height gets referenced.
