His average was well above 50 for most of his career too before dropping dramatically in the last 3-4 years of his career.

Oddly there's quite a few players of that generation with similar kind of figures. From memory Crawley has similar stats to Elliott.

And if you look at India there's a lot of players who average ~50+ at FC level but only average in the 30's (or less) at Test level.

Was a home Test. The thing is he was in England for most of the time up until the last minute, and his selection was purely only down to Ponting having to withdraw because his aunty died. On top of that he had to bat 3 when he was 100% an opener before that point, and the pitch was an absolute dog from memory. Was set up to fail, pretty much.

If you include List A and T20 hundreds as well, another 12 players have reached 100: Tendulkar, Greenidge, Ponting, Mark Waugh, Lamb, Hayden, Gatting, Sangakkara, Kallicharran, Lehmann, Langer and Law. Trescothick is on 96.

Give it a couple of hundred years, when we've learnt how to get complete control over microclimates, and folk have sufficient leisure time to mean First-Class cricket has become the format of choice for the masses and batsmen will start getting there again

Yeah I calculated that after my post.

Smith has 50, Williamson 48 and Root 43.

Pujara's on 60 FWIW. And 49 FC ones - so maybe an outside chance?

Kohli could very well reach 100 international centuries. For other 3, I think they should be able to reach 100 tons (List A+First class).

But then who knows, if TPC has his way, probably his international centuries could look like this.

ODIs - 20
6 test centuries per year for 9 years is improbable, but not impossible.

Man I never realised how little FC cricket Smith has actually played. Only 119 games, out of which more than half are Tests. And he's 30. Ridiculous

The Sheffield Shield season is only ten games long.

Australian test regulars basically never play Sheffield Shield any more.

More like Australia white ball cricketers never play shield any more (e.g. Finch, Maxwell, Carey). Pure Test players like Harris and Paine will get to play most shield games now.

The 'all forms' players like Smith and Warner are definitely lucky to get 1 shield game per year.
