I'm getting reminded of the highlights of Australia's first innings against England at Sydney in 74/75:

The ball kept going through the gap between slips and gully, and John Edrich (who was captaining England after Mike Denness dropped himself) took precisely zero notice of it.

At least he made 50 though.
That's why it's a decent bet still. You can almost guarantee he'll get the 50, but not the 100. I think he should work on his conversion rate before he questions Smith's ability against the moving ball. He had the best of the batting conditions but he was still about 90 short of TPC.
