lol, if you're bringing up Rhodes (played 1899-1926) might as well bring out WG Grace with 6 wins (btw Rhodes was also involved in 6 Ashes defeats).

Looking this up, I found Steve Waugh was involved in 8 series wins, Shane Warne 7 and Mark Waugh, Mark Taylor, Ian Healy and Glenn McGrath 6. In the current squad, this will be Smith, Warner and Lyons 3rd series win

Probably only 5 or 6. Pretty much started at the same time as McGrath. Played on longer but after 06/07 we lost 09, lost 10/11 and lost 2013, which was after he retired anyway.

Smith is currently tied on 8 ashes tons with Morris, Sutcliffe, Ponting and Border

On 9 we have Greg Chappell, Hammond and Gower

On 10 there's Steve Waugh

On 12 we have Jack Hobbs


And lastly we've got Bradman with 19


There's every chance Smith can move into equal third with Waugh this series. Very good chance he ends up with the second most ever considering he's only just turned 30

Sobers scored 52 in his 119th innings (after scoring 110 in 1st innings of test), so Smith needs only 88 to break Sobers record as the all-time best average ever after 119 innings

Think it crept past 60 after the first innings of the Adelaide test 06 but fell bellow 60 after the second innings when he was dismissed for 40 odd

Yeah, he averaged 59.99 at the end of that test (his 107th)

Yeah, that was some ridiculous level of batting from Ponting between 2005-07. Smashed good SA attacks home and away, made that 4th innings ton in Bangladesh and was basically scoring tons every other innings.

That's why I think it's still premature to anoint Smith the best Aussie batsman behind Bradman. Needs to keep it up another couple of years for that.

He clearly shouldn't have played on so long, but looking at the quality of most of his successors, it's hard to blame him for feeling compelled to stick around past his use-by date.
