International Debutant
Joe Denly has put his hand up just at the right time, last 4 innings being 167*, 22, 88 and is currently 138* against Hampshire.

Denly doing well bad news for you guys surely. Looks pretty hopeless whenever I've seen him play, surely Foakes a better option

Foakes is a class act, definitely, and was desperately unlucky to be dropped. But this season, he has looked nowhere near his best (481 runs from 9 matches, at average 30 with 4 50s, and no 100s) - whereas despite Denly's poor start (<40 runs in his first 4 innings after coming back from the IPL, but you could say that was due to lack of playing for 2 months as he didn't play much in the IPL), he already has 475 from 6 matches, with 2 scores of over 150, and an 88, averaging 52.8

So, if you were to give it to the "man in form", Denly is very much that 430+ runs from his last 6 innings. Personally, I'd be tempted to do Sibley and Denly/Burns (I think he Denly did better than Burns in the WI, and Burns has not done quite as well this season, but Burns is a better option for the future), with possibly Foakes in at 3 to keep Root at 4. Don't want Roy near the Test side until he can prove it at county level a bit more - hasn't played this season, only played twice last, season before played 5 (and averaged 42), season before that 11 (and averaged 38). Especially if the talk would be for him to open

International Vice-Captain
Banton is going to get a lot of Pietersen comparisons as his career goes on imo, and some of Jason Roy too. Fun to watch.

So, Kent have finally taken the last Warks wicket - target of 153 off 17 overs at 9. Never say never, but I think this one will be a draw. What cost us is the total waste of the 7 overs after the 7th wicket of Stevens went down, before Kuhn went concussed - in those 7 overs we scored 10 runs. Without those stupid overs we'd have 163 off 24 - a much more manageable target at just over 6.5. Even if we had declared on 502/7, the target would only have been 206 off 34 at less than a run a ball.

good start, apart from the useless Dickson again - he got 4 off 10 balls, the other two have 18 off 14. Abbot has started very well.

9 players on the rope apparently, yet we are still trying too hard for the big hits for boundaries, rather than sharp 2s.

Thats a weirdly timed draw agreement, 1 ball after the wicket, making Robinson walk all the way out. Lol. It's a pity too - as the commentators mentioned, Denly was looking well set and purring along, so thought could have gone for 2-3 more overs just to see what happened, and would have been a bit of practice for the T20 coming up. Also means we don't jump up to 4th - still a fantastic season so far given most were predicting us to come bottom, or at least be mired in a relegation battle. Still annoyed about the pointless 7 overs when we barely scored a run yday after we reached 500 - they were definitely the key to turning this into a win rather than a draw given we had actually started quite well, just not quite quickly enough for 9s an over.

Noticed Bailey Wightman is taking a few poles for Warwickshire 2nds, interesting cricketer. Born in England, raised primarily here in Adelaide, yet lists his favourite cricketer as Morne Morkel. Think a county team can do a lot worse then signing him, still a touch raw but can get plenty of bounce off a length at decentish pace. Dual passport holder sh he is eligible for either nation iirc

Is there any point in the year when Simon Harmer doesn't take wickets ? Early season in England ? Poles. Summer in England ? Poles. Whole season in SA ? Poles. This guy deserves to be playing international cricket.

Harmer is a quality offie, no doubt about that. All that I have heard is that he may make himself available for South Africa again longterm, but for the time being he is focused completely on playing for Essex

Wouldn't blame him at all if he made himself available again for SA, despite it being a blow to Essex. They'd probably still employ him as their overseas providing there's room in South Africa's schedule.

Still harbouring hopes he opts to qualify for England!
