You all had better hope India don't lose a dls affected game. The salt from Indian fans moaning about the unfair dls revision will break the world.
I've wondered before about what the BCCI splitting from the ICC might look like. Functionally less good cricket overall but maybe not that bad; most cricket fans ultimately don't actually care about the cricket being "high quality" in the way that reality/CW perceives it.

Fight me 1v1 in Steven Stern's house.

Cricinfo: We understand that if the match fails to start by 1835 local time (for a 20-over game) then it will be deferred to tomorrow. And for that to happen the rain has to ideally stop by 1730.

16 overs less and runs reduced by 50. Pretty shady.
DLS is all about probability mate. In very simple terms, it looks at last few years' data to see how many % times teams win chasing 237 in 46 overs with 10 wickets remaining. Let's say the answer is 70%. Then they see what is the target in 30 overs where teams win exactly 70% times starting with 10 wickets remaining.

What I've said above is an over-simplification but this is the basic idea behind DLS. It's not shady.

Duckworth lewis a better option than the others available atm but is still pretty high variance.

I’m a big fan from a logical pov but can’t help misattributing my rage to it rather than the weather god at times when the texture of a match completely changes.

Weldone please stop weldonesplaining DL method. I think everyone understands how it works. It's just a killjoy whenever it has to be applied because of discontinuity in the game. That's not DL method's fault, that's fault of disruption

No judgement here, and I love DLS. If I created a rain delay total adjustment algorithm it'd be different to theirs, and sometimes mine would favour the team I want to win more than theirs would. It's subjective in a way that more orthodox cricket chases aren't.

Sometimes it isn't fair, and it's in these circumstances where raging against it is fine or at least understandable, but it's going to be fair more often than any other system I've looked into. There's a difference between blaming it for a specific loss and hating it in general -- the former is fine and sometimes even logical, but the latter isn't, unless I suppose you're Jayadevan (and then you're still wrong, but still).

A: **** man I went all in with AA on the flop with 95% and got busted with a fluke set. I feel like breaking something.

B; Well actually, over 100k hands, that’s a relatively common occurrence. It’s mathematically wrong to be emotionally upset.

I kid obv. :P

Edit: Posted before I saw cribb’s post, not a reply etc.

It seems like play may continue tomorrow without any DLS the way things are going.

Now that's a killjoy :p

I basically agree with you with the additional caveat that it’s far easier to take a long run sample size POV perspective on DLS in a non-KO scenario. In a situation like this with disproportionate rewards for victory, the long run logic isn’t as tight imo prima facie and ‘rerun or start where you left off tomorrow’ might even be better over a a 47 overs to 20 overs DLS. Haven’t really looked into it much though.

When I was a kid, I thought that a panel of experts should be asked for the revised target in case of rain delays. And then average it out. Wish this was a world where that kind of a thing could be made to work.

I mean, what's a reasonable estimate in a situation like this. 30 overs - target should be ~160, right?
