If they beat Afghanistan and Bangladesh then aside from their first game slip up, all their results since then have been exactly what you'd expect from the third best team in the tournament - ie. only losing to the two who will probably finish top. It feels a bit different because their first game was memorably horrible. It'd be hard to argue England should be in ahead of them given they beat England and will have to have beaten everyone else below them other than the West Indies to make it.

So is that how it's going to be is it? If England do somehow manage to turn this around and make the final or even win the thing...........you're going to be saying they just "fluked" a couple of games.

SL still not out of the race. This should happen for them to qualify:

SL should beat WI and IND (10 points)
Eng should lose to IND and NZ (8)
Pak should lose at least one game against Afg or BD (max 9)
BD should lose at least one game against Pak or IND (max 9 points)

Yeah, quite possible but just don't think SL are good enough to do their end of the requirement. Just can't see them beating India.

It's hard being an Aussie. Other fans have no idea how hard it is to contemplate not winning this thing. It's like being a junkie, where withdrawals are much worse than the highs because you have built up a high tolerance for the drug.

Some day India will have to chase 270+. It can easily be the greatest **** show of the tournament from India that day.

England came into this World Cup as theworld's top ranked team. It is perfectly possible they could come out of the tournament as world champions having lost the number 1 ranking.

As awful as they were, this was a massive win for Pakistan and banana peel averted. This is how I see it going :

India beat England putting their fate out of their hands. England win against NZ. India beat Bangladesh. Bangladesh won't have anything but pride to play for as they'll be out of contention by then. Pakistan ease through.

bangers have to play pakistan too, and they have a significantly better run rate. So if bangers lose to India and beat Pak, and Eng win against NZ (as you say) then England sail through

Yeah but Bangladesh won't be as motivated to beat Pakistan when they are already out. Then again, they may play without pressure, knowing that they can piss on Pakistan's parade, so it may spur them on, who knows.

Neither Australia nor India have been tested by a tricky run chase. If and when they play again, the side batting first will win it IMO.
