It's been a problem for some time. Despite a long history of good allrounders there haven't been too many of late, and the lack of allrounders resulted in going with a strategy of picking a gun bowling attack who can contain teams and defend well so that the lack of batting depth won't get shown up. Unfortunately, that's all gone out the window with injuries to Nortje, Ngidi, and now Steyn.

It is unlikely to get another run of Rice, McMillan, Klusener, Pollock, Kallis, but even someone like an Andrew Hall, Justin Kemp, Hansie, or Boje would be useful.

We just had a period of not great all-rounders, not that SA have not tried a few. Got some youngsters coming up. One in particular that has potential to become part of the first group.

I keep looking for answers but I don't think there will be one.

India getting wickets with the new ball means Miller/JP have to face spin of Chahal/Kuldeep and face a challenge they rarely step up for.
