Funny how much the game has changed where a likely 300 total here feels as disappointing and as vulnerable as a 240 score from 20 years ago

Feels like the pressure of being favourites, at home, in the opening game has curbed England's usual fearless attitude. They've threatened to step on the gas at any moment but haven't actually cut loose.

SA have bowled very well though, and England could still defend the 300-320 score they'll end with. But I reckon this is just about par.

Not really been through lack of trying. Been a lot of mistimes, shots not finding gaps, and good fielding.
