Nathan Lyon has a much better record against India (home and away) than Warne ever did. Seems Australia's home tracks have magically got better for spin bowlers over the last decade.

None of these theories attempting to claim: 'Warne just looked utter crap against India, but he was not really bad' are convincing.

The 'one-trick pony' theory actually makes him look worse: the pony who lost his only trick (flipper or whatever) when the chips were down, and ended up looking no better than a jackass.

The 'permanently injured' theory doesn't hold water because his performance against other teams did not suffer, actually appears to have become better and better, as he became more and more injured.

The 'India is a terrible place for slow spinners' theory is laughable. Several slow spinners have bowled at least competently in India; Bedi to name just one of them. It is not just that he bowled badly in India; he was actually worse when he bowled against them in Australia.

Why is it so hard to accept that Warne was a great bowler, but his record has one conspicuous blemish: consistently poor performance against the best players of spin during his time.

No sure what's worse here, stephen's over the top defending of Warne or the over the top attacking of Warne from the usual suspects.

Kapil Dev and Javed Miandad not even in unlucky group ? It is not as if India and Pakistan had some 20 ATGs.

Completely spaced on Kapil and Miandad, they’d replace Kohli and Younis.

Richards over Lara in the wi 5 any day of the week
Lara was literally West Indian cricket for his whole career. Richards was a great batsman but Marshall is the greatest pace bowler of all time and you can’t have a too 5 of West Indies cricket without a pace bowler.

Viv literally won wi two wcs, never lost a series as a captain, tore apart fast bowlers the world over etc etc. The crap Lara pulled during our first tour of rsa in 98, now way viv would've done that. Viv>>Lara anyday of the week

Cricketer Of The Year
Only fast bowler who ever really gave Viv the hurry up was Duncan Spencer, and even then it was near the end of his illustrious career.

Sad story that, Spencer really didn't deserve the truly disgraceful treatment that brought him down

All rounders are really popular here. What makes you pick an AR in this format if you usually overlook them for atg sides etc.

Malcolm

Interesting nobody picked Ashwin in their top 5 Indian cricketers. I would rate him above the likes of Kohli and Kumble. Averaging 25 with the ball and 30 with the bat is very impressive.

He might be dropped from the test team soon

Ashwin is one under-rated cricketer,if not for his bowling, certainly for his allround skills. He has been mediocre in some countries, but does not get a free pass for it like many others. Already has a case for being ahead of Kumble. He should get there by end of his career even if it happens earlier than it should.

Allrounders are generally overlooked for ATG sides because with 5-6 ATG bats and 4 ATG bowlers allrounders may not necessarily create a large impact with their primary or secondary skills separately.

This is different for the actual sides they played in their career where they have at most 3-4 ATG players.

There are exceptions of course if you happen to ATG in one discipline(Sobers,Kallis,Hadlee,Imran etc).
