Hopefully this is the last we see of thirrimanne..I would have preferred to have samarawickrema in his place and then at least we would gain for the future..

Heads are gonna probably roll after this test series. Elgar and Amla might be out the side. Bavuma is not good enough at this level. He's fought hard but just can't go to the next level. A lot of the batsmen should be seriously looking over their shoulders. Except for Markram, Faf and De Kock, we literally have no one to get us runs. That's concerning.

Missed opportunity to have a look at Hamza in this series.. looked good in that one innings vs. Pakistan.

Faf has been poor overall this year, few important innings but not consistent. His tactics have also not always been great. He is a great leader though.

this looks gettable. huge upset in the making here. What a huge decline for south africa, an embarassing one, in the space of 12 months. 12 months ago they were hammering australia. Now they are reduced to crummy-ness. They now know how australia feel with loss of Stars Smith, Kallis and De Villiers. Its equivalent to australia losing Hayden, Ponting and Gilchrist.

Their batting was far from convincing against Pakistan as well.. but they were just about managing to do enough to get over the line. They also had some luck with marginal decisions on overturned catches etc in that series.

TBH, you don't really deserve to win Test matches when you struggle to make 400-450 across two innings at home. SL won't get a better opportunity to win a series here.

Yeah I'd say it's time to tap Amla on the shoulder. Bavuma is a good 6 but isn't up to scratch for a Test Top 5. Elgar is probably 50/50 - the slump is concerning but it's not as long as Amla's - 12 months ago he was gunning it.

Also wouldn't be surprised if Steyn pulled the plug on his career soonish. Even Philander it might be time to move on.

To certain extent this discussion is less about the incumbents and more about what else is available. Yes we know we have batting problems but do we have replacements? Lots of good young talent coming through but they have done well in 1 maybe 2 FC seasons. Lets see how they do for SA 'A' etc.

Well he’s nearly 36, quite injury-prone and no longer numero uno in the Saffers attack. Easy to see him deciding to move on.

Unless you were being a smartarse :p
Nah I wasn’t being a smartarse

I just think he’ll keep on playing for as long as possible

Great start by Sri Lanka, and 15 more minutes of this and its game over. Surprised South Africa didn't start with the spinner considering how de Silva got on yesterday but I'm sure he will get the ball once the horse has bolted.

Steyn hasn’t had an answer when being attacked this summer. Bolds well for the World Cup.
