Perera always had talent.

Never thought he was a Test crickter to be honest.

Most of the time he'd just give it away. Today's knock was surreal.
He played a similarly outrageous knock of 70 in a 4th innings chase vs India in 2015 in a partnership with Mathews. Only unlike today he gave it away with one of the worst reverse sweeps of all time.

Ah that was a great Test. That resurgence by Sri Lanka on day 5 scared the **** out of me, after the Chandimal heroics in the first game.

He was wasted as a no 3 and an opener.

He was primarily a keeper. Made his way in to as a keeper.

I am amazed as to how SL keeps producing keepers that end up being decent Test batsmen.

Sangakkara, Chandimal and now Kusal Perera

More recently, he played a clutch innings that was much shorter against the WI (like about 30 no), but he actually got us home on a spicy deck having come in (injured) with WI way on top, picked his moments and got us there while Dilruwan Perera played a truly horrible, but gritty innings at the other end, think we one with 7 wickets down

Ah okay, maybe he was better than his record suggested. Test average has jumped from 28 to 35 before and after this test. Maybe it's all up from here. Let's hope a star was made today

The jury was very much out on whether he was capable of becoming a consistent test match batsmen, still is. but the talent has always been there, has a very good range of shots, generates power extremely efficiently

One would also highly rate this supporting act by Fernando. He was calm and composed getting inside the line of the ball in most occasions. This innings could be as much part of the legendary folklore as Perera's.

Nah fair enough actually, I was just a little hyped. Faf's interviws always rub me the wrong way for some reason though.
He is the only captain who i have ever enjoyed hearing from because he is the only one that is honest and actually talk about the game. Every other captain will get up after a loss and say 'so sorry, blame only ourselves, just not good enough today'. And peopleate happy cos he copped responsibility. Meaningless pr. Faf we will say that we lost it started because it was turning square and we couldn't handle it. Outrage because he is blaming the pitch. He is saying we are useless at playing spin. But tgis is only relevant if the pitch spins. If we are having a normal conversation about a match, we ca4e gping to mention stuff like this. And this is how he wsnts to give us info as casual thoughts on the match, not a pr script.

He doesn't want the game behind a ca ethical facade. So he says everone knows everyone is pitch doctoring. Why hide it. So he will tell a country he will doctor when they come and they should in return.

He knows this stuff is interesting to fans. But nobody is open with info. So if he.intends pitch doctoring in the series he will tell the fans before, and say how and why. Then we can watch the pitches and judge the game.

And this annoys some people. Better a dishonest lie than an honest policy. Odd

Thing is a lot of South Africans dont like their sports captains speaking positive about their team.

When sports24 articles allowed comments and had article say of 'Faf says South Africa has best bowling attack' . There would be a diluge of comments in disgust

SL, wth?!
Lasith Embuldeniya is one of the guys I am looking forward to see bowl. Don't know how effective his SLA's will be against SA.

A FC avg of 20, with a strike rate of 39.

Hope he is Herath's replacement.

All the best
Hope these SL boys surprise us.

They have a knack at being mystics
It's yolo. Saving all their energy for the real thing

The interesting thing is that Hathurusingha already said if selection was still up to him, Chandimal would have played which means KJP would not

The weird deterministic sect that hansie used to follow whereby everything good comes from god. You can't play well. God helped. Inly a hundred people die in the earth quake. That is less than 200. Grace of god.

That was annoying feels like fake piety. And then hansiegate and the devil made do it. I dont like those articles either. There isnt a purpose except to pat yourself lon the back. And its no longer honesty. Its bragging.

Anyway if you win a game or whatever, feel free to pat yoyrself on the back. Perhaps its appropriate in other contents. Idk

Surreal. I would have given SL 0% chance of doing it. These past few years anything above 180 has been nearly impossible to chase and 304 against SA at home is pretty remarkable. Always thought Kusal had it in him to become a Jayasuriya type player for SL in ODIs but this pretty unpredicted.
