Most Indian fans will be happy with this scorecard. The likes of Rayudu and Karthik looked good in the last match when there was no pressure. These guys got exposed today when they had to perform. Better to have these chinks in the armour exposed now than in the world cup.
I still think Karthik has more steel and more value to offer to the team. Rayudu though is just a still water sailor. Look at his SR to go with his average. He has just been playing to secure his place in the team for about an year now.

Ah! A sound thrashing! Just what the doctor ordered.
This should convince the Kiwis that their team have always been one of the favourites to progress in the World Cup;
and simultaneously bring the ****y Indian fans down to earth.

I don't think there is anything to worry about. This is just a one-off.

Expecting India to score at least 300 in the next odi. And win quite convincingly.
In a weird way I would have been more sad if we lost the game after getting 290 when we looked like getting 330. Or if we lost after a good start while chasing 320. This loss didn't reinforce any fears about our ODI outfit.

well that's two in two for games I attend where they randomly leave out my boi Ferguson

that's about all I have to complain about. Proper way to deal with a team missing three key players.

Darn, when NZ decide to step up, India decide to fold. Still no close match in the series - hoping for one in the last match.

3 questions

-how was the pitch?
-how well did lord colin bowl?
-how well did henry nips bat?
Pitch didn't really have any demons I dont think. Just India not totally sure how to play swing bowling. May have held a little due to a couple of caught and bowleds.
Lord Colin bowled pretty well, admittedly conditions suited him just enough to get some movement off the seam, but mostly pretty tight lines. 10 on the trot too!
Nips batted fine, took advantage of bad balls, seems to value his wicket a lot more than Munro. Will be interesting to see if they persist.

Tidy. A little swing on a humid day, but swung it from the hand, probably over-rewarded by 3 wickets. Rayadu drove a length ball in the air a little too close to a good fielder. Karthik got foxed by regulation out-swing, didn't need to push at a wide ball at 3-33. Kumar missed a straight half-volley. With Boult taking wickets at the other end, the batsman didn't take many risks against de Grandhomme.

thanks for the info guys.

the skeptic in me thinks boult's genius papered over the cracks today, but if cdg can raise the standard of his odi bowling to be as useful as his test bowling and nicholls can continue this steady start then i'll feel a lot better about our odi team.

You are one of the strangest posters on this forum.

Shaw hasn't been tested much either. Just played against WI at home.
Agreed, but you can tell from the way a batsman shapes up at the crease. Gill didn't look particularly nervous today, but had a huge gap between bat and feet on practically every offside shot he played in his short stay.

No, Gill didn't look very good. Though, to be fair to him, none of the top order batsmen looked any better.

Found this article interesting - that they've been considering moving Nicholls up to opener for a while and that they're also considering him as reserve wicketkeeper.

Black Caps' Mr Versatile Henry Nicholls shows he can fill problem spot at the top

"It (opening) is something Steady has talked to me a little bit about as being an option throughout the summer. Then a couple of days out he let me know that was going to happen," Nicholls said.
Stead also raised the prospect of Nicholls being the backup wicketkeeper to Tom Latham in the World Cup squad.

"Similar to the opening, if that [wicketkeeping] is what the squad needs. We've had those conversations. That's something I'll be putting a bit of work into in the coming weeks to finish off the summer.
