Is there anyone in domestic cricket who can come in or are we going to need to bring up a middle order batsmen.
Worker dominates domestic OD cricket and Young did really well recently opening for NZ A, so there are outside options. Neither really fit the role they've got for Munro though and Worker has been a bit of a spud internationally.

Maybe they'll make Southee open.

Is there a good chance he gets dropped/left out of the squad or is he one of the players the selectors love and keep around too long.

He's averaging 25 after 48 games, that's piss poor.

i know people don't want guptill to be the hitter, but if we told him and latham (or the debutant) to minimise dot balls, that's good imo. guptill will score fast anyway and the new guy feels less pressure to be brendon mccullum.

kane, ross and latham all do that job now and set the game up for the 35th over. 300-400 is very achievable with that plan.

Todd Astle used to be an opener. He can't be any worse than Munro - 3 spinners plus Williamson for the CWC!

I think Latham would be better off in the middle order where he can play spinners rather than the moving ball, he plays spinners much better than most of our batsmen and I don't really trust him against the new ball. He'd be better utilized at 5.
Will Young, like Craig Cumming just mentioned. Any other era and he would’ve already played a ton of cricket for New Zealand.

Are we going to be naming a squad for the 4th and 5th ODI or did we name it for the entire series.

Should be done with Munro, he's not up to this level in this format.

Edit:

Styris just brought it up, please drop him and give a chance to other batsmen. They cannot do worse than him.

yes and no. he's unfortunate to have kane and ross in his preffered batting spots, but before this summer he spent his career throwing away 40-70 scores. you don't play for nz scoring domestic 40s.

I'd like to see two new openers brought into the team for the remainder of the series.

Munro should be dropped, he's had so many chances and failed to make use of it. As far as I'm concerned he's played himself out of the WC squad.

I think they will give Munro the chop, you just have to at this point. I’m nervous they’ll go back to George Worker who really isn’t up to this level either. Young can easily score quick enough, maybe allow Guptill to be the dasher because he’s been pretty successful in the past doing that.

For me it's more just that if they wanted Guptill to be the hitter they should've gone for that months ago. He's perfectly capable of it, but messing with his role so close to a WC is a bit of a risk for such an awesome and important player. Sometimes taking risks is the right call, but it's certainly a risk all the same.

So who to replace Munro?

Young, Phillips or manufacturing Nicholls into an opener? Or does Latham go back up the order after being the guy capable of milking spinners in the middle overs?

Phillips didn't look international standard the few times I saw him play.

I'd move Kane up to open and maybe have Neesham or Nicols at 3. I think Neesham and Bracewell should play in our best XI.

Agree about Worker, looks like a mentally tough player and all, but has looked all at sea against international attacks.
