I wonder if his keeping is good enough for him to be in the long term frame, assuming he continues to develop.

Feel for the young debut keeper

I guess no one rates Burgey's boy Bertus. The bloke seems to be 5th or 6th keeper off the ranks in NSW at best

I think he's probably still #2 or #3 in the Shield pecking order. They literally only have two keepers in the whole contracted Shield/JLT squad and he's one of them.

They've got him focusing more on batting this season though based on what Burgey said, so maybe they don't rate his glovework too highly and just see him as a backup bat at the moment. Also can't rule out the possibility that the NSW coaching staff rate him but the Thunder coaching staff don't.

Kind of awkward when you bring a specialist keeper in (presumably because Lenton had a shocker last game) and he drops Shaun Marsh on one of his first touches.

I believe Bert is contracted to the Sixers academy squad, but I could be wrong about that.

Makes for a better story if they brutally dropped him for keeping badly
They'd probably still pick him as a bat even if they did that. Their reserve batting options are terrible, they're down to just using bowling allrounders as specialist batsmen now.

And even though they've stacked their eleven with bowlers they're still bowling Devcich.

BARNES OUT
Crazy that Matty is playing this game, one of my best mates knocked up his sister like 8 years ago and I remember hanging around with him as a little kid haha. I knew he was killing grade cricket down here for a while, didn't realise he'd gone so far.

Ferguson has surprised me this tournament with how effective he's been. I expected him to crank out run-a-ball 20s at best.

Can't praise enough the decision by Thunder captain/coach to throw the kid up to open. After a few errors with the gloves the worst thing would be if he didn't get a bat and that's all he remembered of his first (?only) game. Fantastic example of supporting your young players the right way.
