Lol no. Being shitheads to aussie posters and watching them get pissed because they can't handle it is immensely satisfying. Long time Indian posters here are almost immune to any trolling at this point because it's so repetitive and unfunny (maybe apart from hb who lets it get to him at times). The Aussie contingent isn't used to it and it's great.
Which "aussie posters" "cant handle it"?

Since when has there been civility from you guys? This is the supporter base which gave us Precam, OS (same thing), HB, you, this sunilz buffoon and Chennai, among many other supporter atrocities.
Will this be considered as crossing the line ?

Quite a few. Try calling Lillee a favourable track bully or Ponting a poor player of spin (with data to back up in certain countries) and see the **** hit the fan.

“X is a bad player of Y bowling, and here’s my *selected data from certain countries* to prove it”.

In Lillee's case it is 3 out of 6 countries he played. So it is not cherry picking. In Ponting's case it is 25 innings across 5 tours over 12 years in India, so that is not cherry picking either.

You can't say "X is a bad player of spin" if they do badly in one country. You can say they played spin badly in one country, but you can't say in this case Ponting was a bad player of spin when he played it well everywhere but one country.

Was bizarre he never did well in India until his last two tours, when he was pretty much past it, yet in his peak he did nothing there. Weird.

What do you take from Lillee's record given he played one match in SL and three in Pakistan? At a pinch you can bag him for the Pakistan series, yet in his career he bowled 30 overs in SL and 32 in WI, the latter with a stress fracture which ruled him out for a year afterwards. Seems a bit odd to bag him on those numbers as a helpful wicket bully. My understanding is the decks in the WI back in the 70s were pretty helpful to quicks anyway. To the point where one visiting test skipper capitulated and forfeited his country's second innings rather than face up to it.

Feel like we just had this conversation last week. Biggest reason for Ponting's bad record in India is missing the 2004 tour, which is the only time Aus toured India when Ponting was a great player.

Ponting's peak was ~2002-2007, and he never toured India during that time (played 1 Test on a diabolical pitch I think)

He'd get owned. Hard hands, thrusting his bat and pads into the rough. No amount of cheating would help him.

Knowledge is saying Lillee did poorly in the SC and WI.

Wisdom is understanding context is important and that the same old dim witted attempts at nationalistic dickwaving are ****ing tiresome.

I just think he probably faced the bowler he struggled with most in helpful conditions tbh. Just a weird anomaly for him. In 2010 he was past it but made five 60 plus scores in six digs. Just a hole in his record which he never properly fixed. Averaged 47 over his last two tours there but only made the one ton.

How did he manage to score 5 60 plus scores in 4 innings ?

He did not miss the 2004 test series entirely. He played the last test match and got owned. Not disputing that he was a great player.

So you're saying the biggest reason for Ponting's terrible record in India is because his peak was extremely short. It's no one else's fault but his own that he wasnt at his peak in 2001 and 2008. \

Also, Ponting's later tours in 2008 and 2010 had super flat decks compared to the ones in 2001 and 2004. He sucked on the subcontinent whenever it turned, plain and simple.

I don't think Ponting was any worse at playing spin (ability-wise), than, say Kohli or Pietersen. Not nearly as good as Sachin/Laxman/Jayawardene/Younis Khan etc. but perfectly acceptable. His results in India do blemish his CV a bit, but he wasn't a mediocre player of spin. Wouldn't trust him to defend his way through a session on a day 5 pitch though, his game wasn't suited to that.

Sorry, I was looking at a list of his career scores vs India. Was three in four. 71, 4, 77, 72.
A good series here.

As you said, he batted better in the last 2 tours of India.

Ponting in the first 3 tours of India : 174 runs at 12

Ponting in the last 2 tours of India : 490 runs at 44

Overall : 664 runs at 26, a pretty poor record for a great player which he certainly was. I did not call him a bad player of spin. I called him a poor player of spin, a much softer qualitative word. His technique of lunging forward or going right back when there is rough in the pitch for the spinners to exploit did him in most of the occasions.

Kohli's definitely better imo, and even he is pretty flawed. Even though he has hard hands, he gets away with it most of the time because he's great at smothering the turn. He struggles more against the spinners when there's a bit of bounce though.

Yeah, it was a good series without him kicking on. If he'd managed a couple of tons there his record would look a bit better than it ended up, but wasn't to be for him.
