Australian One Day team

I think I've cracked how the selectors are picking the ODI team. They have some kid handing them a slip of paper that shows the current average and SR added together and ranked accordingly. This gives:

(1) Maxwell 32.02 @ 121.05
(2) Stoinis 42.41 @ 98.22
(3) M Marsh 35.70 @ 93.08
(4) Finch 37.56 @ 89.54
(5) Head 34.40 @ 90.02
(6) S Marsh 40.56 @ 81.12
(7) Handscomb 21.28 @ 100
(8) Khawaja 31.26 @ 82.28

So the only question is why was Head excluded....maybe the kid made a typo?

Btw,
(9) Short 27.66 @ 83.83
(10) Lynn 18.75 @ 84.26

Actually forgot NCN, definitely in the frame if fit.

Mitch Marsh is a different prospect in short form, I see him as a huge weapon in ODIs (opposed to the liability he is in tests).
Funny re. NCN, apparently Hohns in an interview said the reason NCN wasn't picked for the ODI squad was because of back soreness and he's unavailable

when asked about this NCN expressed confusion and said that his back was fine (maybe a little normal soreness) and nothing was communicated with him re. selection

Agar also questioning selectors communication. He was in all white ball squads in UAE and Australia but only played two T20's. This means he wasn't available for any other games except one shield game. He's currently doing well in BBL so joked that he obviously didn't carry drinks well enough to remain in the squad

There's pretty solid players on the sideline this ODI series

Warner
Short
Smith
Lynn
Head
Wade +
Agar
Pattinson
Starc
Cummins
Hazlewood

I'm pretty sure this team would kick the current squads butt, so there's still hope for the WC when all are available again :)

That team is a **** load better than the one they are playing. That top 4 would be brutal on a flat wicket, like the kind there will be a WC on in a few months . . .

You just know we're going to play guys like Handscomb and an out of form Khawaja on English roads for the WC with Lynn and Short on the bench, chasing 350+

Unless Starc re-finds his 2015 form and Haze cuts down on the pies I don't think we have the bowling to defend even around 340 in England anyway.

Yeah nah

Short and Lynn have been some of the biggest disappointments Australia has served up in the ODI scene

Still think Short could be a viable ODI option going forward, but I wouldn't really consider Lynn. Especially considering he is so injury prone and as a result a bit of a passenger in the field

Very good points, but I'd still rather have him around if chasing 350-400 looks likely, than Handscomb or Head

Yeah nah

Maybe, they've both only been given 4 matches and in the SA series all bats other than Smarsh were ****. If only they had been given the same amount of chances as other batsmen

It can take some time to click at the top level. Discounting them after a few innings is a bit premature.

I'll grant that Short can look pretty terrible at times (*cough* IPL *cough*)

Ok weird I thought they both had played way more than 4 games each

Must've confused it with T20s

I've noticed Lynn hasn't tried to hook or play many bouncers in the BBL so far after getting out that way in one of the ODI's.

Could Stanlake be a bolter for the playing XI at the WC? Quicks who can get wickets in the middle overs are priceless. His record is modest, but get the feeling he's a guy that would be very useful on flat wickets with his pace. Accomodating him and Starc in the same team could prove difficult however.

Personally think he's very useful to have in the XV

If he's bowling at his best Stanlake should definitely be in the squad, his Big Bash form recently is a bit patchy though

Ashton Turner is still the one guy that we havent tried who I wish we did. For my money he is the perfect bat in the middle order alongside Stoinis and Maxwell.

Finch Warner Smith Stoinis Maxwell Turner Carey Cummins Starc is a batting lineup to 9 that i would like to see. Carey would move up the order in some circumstances, if we wanted a lefty at the crease.

With no Warner and Smith the 2 spots should be filled by 2 of Khawaja SMarsh Short Lynn Head.
Pretty pleased with Turners inclusion in the one day squad. He is a no brainer for our T20I team too.

Finch fails again. He has done nothing in white ball cricket in the last 6 months and his position must be questionable by now?
